The General Maintenance Laborer assists the College in maintaining the campus and grounds. In this position, a broad variety of work is performed in tasks such as, but not limited to: carpentry; painting; plumbing; electrical; masonry; custodial services; grounds/landscape maintenance; and other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Perform or assist in a variety of tasks as it pertains to the maintenance of buildings and other facility related tasks such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical and masonry under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director,
Perform a variety of carpentry related tasks as it relates to both the construction and maintenance of buildings and other facilities. Tasks may include, but not limited to: erecting metal stud walls, handing and finishing sheetrock, installing trim, installing tile and cove base, painting, and erecting/installing 2x2 and 2x4 ceiling tiles.
Perform a variety of tasks in grounds/landscape/horticultural maintenance. Tasks may include, but are not limited to: mowing grass; trimming/raking/edging/weeding; cultivating flower beds; pruning bushes/shrubs/trees; debris pickup, and painting (ex: parking lot lines), through the use of lawn and maintenance equipment and tools
Ability to transport and relocate office furniture, file cabinets, and other campus equipment
Assist with set-ups for special campus functions. Set-up activities include: tables, chairs, campus signage and portable stages under the direction of the Events Coordinator and Maintenance Coordinator
Ability to work safely from equipment such as but not limited to ladders, lifts, and scaffolding
Ability to transport more than 50 pounds safely and independently
Ability to perform job-related task in an efficient manner
Promote, support and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Knowledge of the operational methods, material, and equipment used in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry and other maintenance work
Knowledge of operation for both manual and power-driven tools and equipment
Knowledge of basic hand tools used in grounds maintenance/landscaping.
Knowledge of general cleaning methods, procedures, and safe-handling
Ability to execute tasks based on instruction
Ability to perform job-related task for extended periods of time, which can include unfavorable climatic conditions
JOB STANDARDS/QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED.
Related experience in job-related duties
Possession of a valid driver's license.
EQUIPMENT STANDARDS
Work activities routinely involve work with, but not limited to, personal computers, peripheral devices, landscaping tools, manual and power-driven tools, cleaning supplies, etc.. Some job duties could require the use of equipment such as tables, projectors, etc. Equipment can weigh between 25-50 pounds.
JOB LOCATION
The Maintenance Building located on the main campus of Cleveland State Community College is the primary workplace. Employee may be required to travel within the college's 5 county service area.
