Job Description:

Westchester Parks Foundation engages the public to advocate for and invest in the preservation, conservation, use, and enjoyment of the 18,000 acres of parks, trails, and open spaces within the Westchester County Parks system. Since 2006, Westchester Parks Foundation has operated the Camp Morty sleep-away camp, a quality outdoor residential camp experience for children residing in underserved communities in Westchester County. The Camp Nurse serves as the on-site health director and is responsible for the care of ill or injured campers and staff and related administrative duties for the duration of the six week camp program. Some administrative duties can be performed remotely prior to camp opening. Start date to be determined with candidate for June 2024 with contract ending in mid-August 2024.

Required Background and Qualifications

? A medical professional (physician*, nurse practitioner*, physician assistant*, registered nurse*, licensed practical nurse*, emergency medical technician or other person acceptable to the permit-issuing official)

? Current certification in American Red Cross Responding to Emergencies, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and AED, or acceptable equivalents are required. The Health Director must have experience in dealing with children and medical emergencies.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Camp Director & Associate Director, the Health Director must:

? Plan, develop, implement and evaluate the on-site program and camp safety program for both staff and camp participants.

? Communicate with the Westchester County Health Department as required by code.

? Review and ensure compliance of NY State Health Code for Summer Camps as it pertains to the Health Office.

? Advise campers and staff on procedures that promote health and safety while they reside at that camp. This includes leading a session on "Staying Healthy at Camp" for staff members during staff orientation and participating in camper orientation by explaining camp health procedures and informing the campers about ways to stay healthy while at camp.

? Lists will be provided to both the camp administrative team and staff members working directly with the affected campers. This is to be completed prior to the campers arrival to camp and will be updated as necessary throughout the session.

? Parents/Guardians will be made aware of any limitations that will be placed on their children while at camp due to their condition.

? Organize and distribute a camper medication schedule for campers attending each session prior to the campers arrival.

? Manage all incoming and outgoing medication (both prescription and non-prescription) for campers and staff living in camper's quarters.

? Maintain the camp's "Health Log," a system for record keeping of all illnesses and injuries at camp location.

? Follow up on all incident/accident reports by calling parents/guardians and document appropriate in the camp's health log.

? Assess campers and staff who are ill or injured and determine if further medical attention if needed.
