Seasonal Horticultural Therapy Program Instructor
This position will help to provide instruction of horticulturally themed activities during Adventures camps and other summer programming. The position also entails care of the plants in the greenhouse and gardens over the summer.  In addition to horticultural knowledge, candidates should possess good communication skills, creativity, be team oriented and an ability to work with groups with a variety of needs.  
It is anticipated that a full-time Horticulture Program Coordinator position will be posted for the Fall and this position may apply to that posting. 

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:

1. Bachelors degree in horticulture, agriculture, education, rehabilitation, human services, therapeutic recreation, environment studies or related field required. Graduate degree preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions.


2. Mobility and physical strength to perform all tasks of the Horticulture Program inclusive of watering plants, carrying soil, pots, and plants, digging, bending, staking, etc.


3. Must have audio / visual / verbal acuity to provide supervision for the clients and to perform essential job functions.


4. Must have physical dexterity in order to assist in client physical interventions when necessary.


5. Must complete and pass agency Crisis / Physical Intervention Training.

EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must have emotional stability to perform essential job functions.


2. Must display emotional intelligence.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to relate to staff and clients in a manner that conveys respect and protects the dignity of all served by the Program.


2. Ability to function effectively in a crisis situation as measured by the care delivered to clients, staff, animals, plants and environment during unexpected events.


3. Valid drivers license is required.


4. Must have access to a telephone.


5. Demonstrated ability to adjust to change.


6. Must be able to adjust hours to job requirements.


7. Must possess and demonstrate verbal and written communication skills.


8. Must be eligible for PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse History clearance and FBI clearances.


9. Demonstrate the ability to work independently.


10. Demonstrate the ability and willingness to ask questions if uncertain about specific job tasks or changes.


11. Must be able to identify with the Agency's Mission Statement and implement and support the Agency's Core Values.

KNOWLEDGE AREAS:

1. Working knowledge and demonstration of horticultural skills with an emphasis on the instruction of therapeutic horticulture programming.


2. Working knowledge of greenhouse management.


3. General working knowledge of and ability to adjust to Agency population, diagnosis, characteristics, behavior.

Summer Camp (7-8 hours a day, 5 days a week during 4 weeks of camp sessions)

Session #1 June 17-28 & Session #2 July 29th through  August 9th)
