Job Summary:

Under general supervision of a Nurse Manager and according to established Hospital and nursing department policies and procedures, performs a variety of duties including compiling, transcribing, preparing, and maintaining records in a specific nursing area or unit. Provides information and communication services to visitors and staff. Assists nursing staff in maintaining efficient and effective operations on the unit. This position requires working rotating shifts.

Job Responsibilities:

Communicates with members of the healthcare team, patients, and visitors using oral and written means and equipment such as answering the telephone and call bell and greeting visitors.
Assembles and prepares new patients charts as instructed; keeps accurate patient records; files patient data; purges and archives patient information; maintains reminder information; reviews charts regularly to ensure accuracy and completeness of records in accordance with policies and procedures.
Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
Prepares special forms such as release of information; obtains hospital medical records, as needed.
Transcribes doctor's orders per policy.
