Under general supervision, prepares surfaces and applies paint to interior and exterior surfaces throughout hospital facilities and satellites. Responsible for snow removal as needed.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares work area, moving furniture, assures adequate ventilation, masks around areas being painted, and spreads drop cloths to protect flooring. Mask or remove hardware.
Prepares surfaces for painting using sandpaper, wire brushes, cleaning solvents. Compounds defects in wall surface and drywall finish as necessary.
Works from step ladders and on staging for certain jobs.
Cleans work area upon completion of painting. Replaces furniture. Cleans equipment, brushes, etc.
Occasionally hangs or repairs wallpaper.
Is subject to call at any time for emergency repairs to hospital facilities.
Occasionally will assist carpenters.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsible for snow removal as needed.
Responsible to review all ICRA & ILSM procedures prior to each job.
Qualifications
High School grad or equivalent; Knowledge of painting techniques, tools, and materials expected of an incumbent with between three and at least five years of experience.
Ability to maintain written records and read and understand work orders and written warning labels. Must be able to measure ingredients by volume to mix paints, thinners, etc.
Physical ability to manipulate painting tools and to walk, climb, bend, stoop and push. Must be able to work more than half of day from a ladder.
Skills and Abilities
Requires interpersonal skills necessary to maintain productive working relationships with other groups within the department.
Walks, climbs, ladders and staging, lifts paint, pushes furniture and equipment truck.
Ability to maintain written records, read and understand work orders and written warning labels.
Work requires the ability to lift lumber, doors and heavy times (over 70 lbs) regularly.
Must be physically able to use a respirator.
