Purpose/Introduction Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) is seeking an Industrial Hygienist to join the Environmental, Health, Safety, & Security (EHS&S) team for the Golden Triangle Polymers (GTP) facility located in Orange, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up.

The Industrial Hygienist is responsible for managing the industrial hygiene element within the Plant Health and Hygiene Program focusing on the anticipation, recognition, identification, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards as well as compliance with applicable regulations.

This position will be assigned to the project location in Orange, TX and will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations. #HPCP

Responsibilities
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining written occupational health and industrial hygiene strategies, programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Developing facility industrial hygiene monitoring plan.
  • Conducting technical assessments such as chemical, noise, lighting surveys, radiation, indoor air quality, ergonomics, and other relevant workplace exposure assessments.
  • Ensuring compliance with company, local, state, federal, and OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Keeping abreast of new and changing laws and regulations and taking appropriate action to ensure compliance and communication to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Developing and conducting IH and Radiation Safety training programs as and when required.
  • Functioning as the Radiation Safety Officer for the facility.
Responsibilities (continued)
  • Supporting emergency response teams for IH related matters.
  • Utilizing statistical tools to analyze data and documents and communicate results.
  • Leading or participating on project or process improvement teams, hazard analyses, etc.
  • Working in collaboration with the Medical Department to ensure medical surveillance programs are assigned correctly.
  • Participating and providing leadership in OSHA VPP activities.
  • Partnering with stakeholders to define and employ appropriate health and hygiene controls.
  • Serving as a point of contact for Industrial Hygiene issues during regulatory and company audits.
Skills / Abilities
  • Must demonstrate excellent organizational skills and be able to evaluate and prioritize multiple tasks to ensure alignment with project and department goals while acting with a sense of urgency when required.
  • Must be adaptable and possess creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to interact well with others and work in a team environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are needed to succeed in this position.
  • Proficiency in the utilization of Microsoft Office applications.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental health, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, chemistry, biology, chemical engineering or related discipline.
  • At least five years of industrial hygiene experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of OSHA General Industry and EPA TSCA regulations, NIOSH and ACGIH standards, working knowledge of relevant regulatory interpretations, and professional experience in industrial hygiene, ergonomics, ventilation, radiation safety and occupational health behavioral safety concepts and a strong technical background.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification.
  • CIH (certified industrial hygienist) or ability to obtain a CIH certification within the first 18 months of employment in the role.
  • Experience with Cority® safety, medical and IH modules.
  • Experience in the petrochemical, refining, or related industry.
