Job Description




The Practice Assistant role provides legal and administrative support to various practice groups in the office. The Practice Assistant works closely with Legal Secretaries, Paralegals, and Attorneys as it relates to the workflow of the assignments and designated aspects of a case.



Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:



  • Mailing and creation of binders.

  • Preparing expense reports, check requests, and new business memos.

  • Create, revise and format legal documents.

  • Compile documents in support of briefs and witness interviews, organize document production and prepare detailed indices for attorney review.

  • Assist in maintaining records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases.

  • Assist with investigations and gathering the facts of a case.

  • Contact clients, witnesses, lawyers, and outside vendors to schedule interviews, meetings, and depositions.

  • Assist with filing exhibits, briefs, appeals, and other legal documents as needed.

  • Prepare, organize, store, and retrieve case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, and other items.

  • Write and summarize reports to assist attorneys with trial preparation.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.







Qualifications:




  • Bachelor's Degree required; Paralegal Studies or related field highly preferred.

  • One or more years of related experience required; experience in a law firm supporting paralegals and/or attorneys is highly preferred.

  • Professional, organized self-starter with the ability to interact with attorneys, staff, and clients at all levels in a fast-paced, challenging legal work environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong time management skills.

  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion.

  • Experience with cite checking highly preferred.

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.





Qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records will be considered for the position in accordance with the California Fair Chance Act. California pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on skillset and experience is $60,000-$70,000.
