Overview

This position will be responsible for participating in behavioral management for nonhuman primates (NHPs) assigned to sequester/containment (ABSL 2+) and other areas. Responsibilities will include:

  • Participation in ONPRC nonhuman primate (NHP) positive reinforcement training (PRT) program to train NHPs to cooperate with husbandry and research procedures including daily injections, biological sample collection, and ultrasounds
  • Assessing NHPs for suitability for various research programs
  • Assisting with specific components of research projects devoted to psychological well being of research animals, including data collection, entry, analysis, and report writing
  • Working closely with PI staff and others to address behavioral needs of NHPs
  • Reviewing literature and regulatory sources to evaluate and recommend implementation of training plans and protocols


Responsibilities

  • Bachelor's in relevant field AND 1 year of relevant experience OR
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate positively and effectively in oral and written formats, with research, administrative, and support staff regarding the needs and goals of the program
  • Ability to interact with NHPs in a calm, respectful manner
  • Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions, use basic computer programs (including spreadsheets, graphics and statistical programs) and simple hand/power tools
  • Ability to think strategicaly and work accordingly, producing effective results and working efficiently within the time constraints of the position
  • Ability to work both independently and in group settings
  • Ability to prioritize work demands


Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in biology, psychology, anthropology, or related field
  • 1 year training NHPs using PRT
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite and statistical programs
  • LAT, LATg, or CVT
