Position Summary:
As a member of the Packaging Department within Grand Island Operations, this role will support or multiple projects of varying difficulty, to develop engineer skills and gain exposure at ThermoFisher Scientific. Projects include assessing alternative packaging components, developing packaging designs to meet customer requirements, revising specifications and supporting investigations related to packaging component defects. As an Engineer I, there are some interactions with customers, sales representatives, product managers and business development professionals on current and new packaging opportunities.



Responsibilities:



  • Work independently with guidance using knowledge of current package designs, materials, industry requirements, and processes to drive revenue growth, cost savings, and efficiency gains that consider customer and plant requirements.



  • Developing packaging knowledge through supporting senior engineers in building prototypes, testing, and validation of the developed design for customer approval and manufacturability



  • Developing excellent follow-through both with daily workload and long-term projects, operating with guidance and support of senior engineers.



  • Provide support with the guidance of senior engineers on packaging by working with the suppliers, procurement, and manufacturing teams.



  • Develop technical skills, provide technical recommendations and oversight on packaging concerns by interacting with multifunctional teams.



  • Ability to show proficiencies in and ability to apply standard packaging engineering subject matter to problem solving



  • Be interested in career growth and motivated by success and performance.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • B.S. in Packaging Engineering, with 0 years experience working with packaging components or demonstrated ability in a medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

  • The candidate must have effective time management and communication skills.

  • Developing research, data gathering and analysis skills.

  • Developing technical and project management skills.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 1-2 years' experience within the medical device, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.

  • Have working knowledge of 3D modeling software, such as Artios or AutoCAD with the ability to read and understand technical drawings. Drawing proficiency is preferred, but not required.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in New York is $24.42-$31.40.
