The Product Manager (PM) owns their assigned product line(s) from idea generation through obsolescence. This includes writing specifications for new product opportunities, prioritizing roadmap projects, understanding market needs, budgeting, and forecasting existing and new product sales, competitive analysis, and business case writing. During development they will work closely with the engineering team to analyze and choose best development alternatives, and with other teams to deliver products that align with Senva's vision and standards.
For a new product launch the Product Manager is responsible for providing cohesive competitive advantages and key features to the marketing team, implementing a GTM strategy, and organizing obsolescence plans where appropriate.
The PM is ultimately responsible for the product line's continual growth through sales training, promotion, and continuous improvement projects.
Responsibilities
1) Drive product development process
Create and maintain product road maps.
Rank and prioritize product development opportunities.
Market research on form and function, competitive analysis, part numbering, and pricing.
Write marketing specs for new products or proposals.
Design preliminary user interfaces and product labels of new products.
Create preliminary spec sheets and installation manuals.
Manage new product development hand-offs.
Get customer inspired solutions to market quickly.
Evaluate product life cycles and create obsolescence plans.
2) Develop marketing collateral
Clearly communicate product features and benefits through copy writing and illustrations.
Create feature-benefit videos for web and emails.
Create "How to" tech tips and application notes.
Explore new marketing opportunities using social or other media platforms.
Update and maintain product photos on website and catalog.
Homogenize the look and feel of web banners, icons, photos, videos, presentations, and documentation.
Manage trade shows including booth layout, swag, marketing collaterals, and product displays.
3) Support sales activities
Deliverables
Conduct product training and develop training aids for customers and reps including presentations, cross-references, competitive comparisons and sell sheets.
Develop product promotions and sales incentives.
Implement full sales/marketing capabilities of Navision, including segments and campaigns.
Provide support for higher-level technical calls and product issues.
Various tasks required to support the growth of a small company.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Engineering, Finance, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) or related field. BS Engineering/BSEE preferred. Master's degree preferred.
5+ Years experience in product management or adjacent role, preferably in the HVAC market.
Technical aptitude to understand products, their applications, and key features.
Involvement or direct experience with roadmap prioritization, specification writing, tollgate processes, and product lifecycles.
Experience working interdepartmentally to complete tasks and projects; align stakeholders on product and roadmap vision.
Ability to simply convey complex topics, including promotional and technical copywriting.
Preferred: Ability to produce marketing collateral using Adobe CS5 Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and related video software.
