Job Description:

Our client is hiring a PLC Technician in Goose Creek, SC. As a PLC Technician, you will apply electronic theory, principles of electrical circuits, electrical testing procedures, engineering mathematics, physics, and related knowledge to layout, build, test, troubleshoot, and repair production equipment. This is a direct-hire opportunity.

Job Purpose

The maintenance department carries out major and minor maintenance projects as well as ongoing preventive and corrective maintenance at the factory. This applies to both production machines, buildings, and other infrastructure. During implementation, high attention is required on safe implementation, technical facilitation, and ongoing assessment of risk.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associates degree in Electronics Technology, or equivalent certification
  • 5+ years of experience within the electronics field

General Requirements:

  • Able to read, write, and comprehend the English language (i.e., the language of all plant directives) for required document control, equipment operation, and supervisor/peer instructions
  • Completion of an accredited apprenticeship preferred
  • Documented proficient working knowledge of Allen Bradley and Siemens plc's/controls/protocols platforms
  • Able to work other shifts and overtime to complete work as needed
  • Willing to be on call to support production needs
  • Strong computer skills, with the capability to use email, compile reports, and spreadsheets for parts and project tracking
  • Able to prepare technical reports for documenting issues/changes to equipment
  • Able to manage projects for implementing changes and improvements
  • Responsible for their own work and must exercise care and compliance with all established safety procedures

Essential Functions:

  • Observe function of installed equipment to detect hazards, problems, and the need for service, repair, and/or replacement of electrical, electronic, and mechanical components
  • Discuss performance issues and improvement ideas with pertinent technical staff
  • Read and understand electronic and electrical schematics
  • Draw sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic units
  • Assemble experimental circuitry of complete prototype models according to engineering instruction, technical manuals, and knowledge of electronic systems, components, and their functions
  • Recommend changes in circuitry of installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance
  • Required to maintain backups of programs from all electrical devices
  • Understand and able to troubleshoot and repair solid-state motor dries, solid state temperature controls, and computer-based controllers
  • Set up standard test apparatus or contrives test equipment and circuitry
  • Conduct functional and operational tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production models
  • Analyze and interpret data from solid-state motor drives and controllers scope meters and other troubleshooting equipment
  • Adjust, calibrates, and aligns circuitry and components and records effects on unit performance
  • Able to check newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions
  • Able to obtain forklift and aerial lift platform licenses
  • Keep work area clean and orderly and free of hazards
  • Collaborate with maintenance teamwide contact area in own and other departments when following up LOTO/JSA
  • Follow internal HSE guidance to minimize injuries and unwanted incidents
  • Maintain good flow when carrying out maintenance projects through practical arrangements and coordination
  • Contribute to the department's area of responsibility with expertise in PLC subjects
  • Contribute to commissioning and proper use of LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) at the factory
  • Be "buddy" of apprentices and placement students in the maintenance department
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, use hoist or assistance for weight above 50 pounds
  • Ability to walk long distances, climb stairs, ladders, bend, squat, crawl, kneel, and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions such as hot, cold, rain, and humidity
  • Ability to work on aerial lift platforms up to 80 feet on a limited basis, 30 feet on average
