Position Description and Key Responsibilities

The Director, HSEQ is a critical leadership role within our organization, responsible for establishing, managing, and continuously improving our Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality standards. This role involves strategic planning, implementation of best practices, compliance with regulations, and fostering a culture of safety and excellence across all levels of the organization, as well as contractors, and visitors. This is an opportunity to lead and implement effective strategies that align with our company's values and industry regulations.

You will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of our HSEQ programs across the organization. This is a hands-on role requiring high degrees of engagement, interaction, and coaching to effectively develop, implement, and monitor the policies and procedures that underpins our culture and compliance across HSEQ.

Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
  1. Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive HSEQ strategy aligned with the company's objectives, ensuring integration of health, safety, environmental, and quality principles into all business activities.
  2. Policy Development: Create, implement, and maintain HSEQ policies and procedures that comply with local, state, and federal regulations and align with industry best practices.
  3. Compliance and Auditing: Ensure the organization's compliance with HSEQ laws and regulations through regular audits, inspections, and reviews. Address non-compliance issues promptly and effectively.
  4. Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate HSEQ risks associated with the organization's operations. Develop and implement risk management strategies to minimize potential impacts.
  5. Training and Development: Develop and deliver HSEQ training programs to employees at all levels, promoting a culture of safety and awareness throughout the organization.
  6. Incident Management: Oversee the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near-misses, ensuring that corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.
  7. Performance Monitoring: Establish and monitor HSEQ performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of policies and programs, making data-driven decisions to drive continuous improvement.
  8. Data Management: Maintain and further the Company's incident reporting and investigation system, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of all incidents, accidents, and near misses. Analyze trends and develop strategies to prevent future occurrences.
  9. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, to enhance HSEQ performance and reputation.
  10. Team Leadership: Lead and develop the HSEQ team, providing guidance, setting goals, and evaluating performance to build a high-performing team.
  11. Customers: Engage, present and be visible with customers to clearly demonstrate domain knowledge and leadership across all aspects of HSEQ.
  12. Sustainability Initiatives: Integrate sustainable practices into the HSEQ strategy, contributing to the company's sustainability goals and environmental stewardship.
  13. Thought Leadership: Monitor and assess emerging HSEQ trends, regulations, and best practices to proactively address potential risks and implement necessary updates to policies and procedures.


Qualifications and Skills:
  • Commitment to ethical conduct with a high level of integrity and a 'servant-leader' mentality.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in HSEQ (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) is highly desirable.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in various HSE, Quality or HSEQ roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position, and preferably within the industrial services, manufacturing, or construction sectors.
  • Extensive knowledge of HSEQ regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Proven track record of implementing successful HSEQ programs and initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement strategic solutions.
  • Experience in crisis management and emergency response planning.
  • Strong knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation.
  • Proven leadership skills, including the ability to inspire and motivate a team towards a shared vision of safety excellence.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on finding practical and effective solutions
  • Familiarity with HSEQ management systems (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 9001) and experience leading audits or certifications is an asset.

Computer Skills:
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Reporting Relationships
  • Dual reporting lines under a matrix organization to Divisional President's and the CEO

Direct Reports
• Multiple HSE Managers and HSE Techs along with any seasonal HSE and Quality personnel.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

The overall nature of the position is sedentary in nature requiring little physical effort and occasional light physical exertion. There is little, if any, exposure to environmental conditions.
  • The constant physical demands of the position are talking and hearing.
  • The frequent physical demands of the position are sitting, standing, and walking.
  • The occasional physical demands of the position are carrying, pushing, pulling, handling, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination.

Travel Requirements
  • This position requires 40% travel to various jobsites in the USA as well as periodic travel to Canada and Mexico. A valid passport and USA work eligibility is mandatory.
  • Scope driven overnight stay may be required, duration to be determined.
