Job Summary:

As a Mechanical Engineer you will have two primary responsibilities. The first is to assist the engineering team to develop rapid and rigorous root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to ensure high production yields in the manufacturing of Traveling Wave Tubes (TWT) and related components. Assistance will take the form of data review and analysis, simulation and modeling, and development of engineering tests to ensure the root cause was correctly identified and corrective action is effective and lasting. The other primary responsibility is to work with the electrical engineering design team, providing mechanical analysis and design input in the development of improved components and new products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Review yield data and perform analysis of non-conforming assemblies as assigned.
  • Work with other engineers across multiple disciplines, using defined processes to determine the cause of the non-conformance.
  • In cooperation with the team, develop engineering tests to confirm root cause and validate corrective actions that will be implemented to prevent repeat failures.
  • Report on findings, analysis results, and corrective actions to other engineers, other departments and TMEC leadership as required.
  • Develop a strong understanding of and adhere to the principals and processes of data driven root cause analysis.
  • Work as part of the engineering team for the continuous improvement of various TWT components and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate on the design and development of new, state-of-the-art high-power microwave devices.
  • Perform finite element analysis of parts and subassemblies for heat transport, thermomechanical stresses, and vibration analysis as required.
  • Write reports covering engineering activities and results.
  • Review customer specs and assist in determining compliance of new and/or existing products and the testing methodology to be used.
  • Perform mandatory training and other requirements in a timely fashion.
  • Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.

Other desired Skills and Abilities

  • Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen
  • Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor, Ansys Mechanical Desktop, Python computer language
  • Microwave or power electronics
  • Braze methods and fixture design
  • Resistance spot welding/ TIG/ Laser welding
  • Microscopes/Automated inspection equipment
  • High vacuum processing and product design
  • Understanding of engineering drawings, including GD&T requirements and application.
  • Ability to perform 3D modeling. Experience with AutoDesk Inventor or Dassault Solidworks is preferred.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in Mechanical Engineering or Physics and 0-2 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Active government security clearance or the ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
