Job Description:

A key Optimus power generation client is looking for a Commercial Analyst to conduct analysis of power asset optimization for their entire portfolio.

Essential Functions
  • Analyze Power Markets including: PJM, NYISO, ISONE, MISO, or others to support portfolio optimization.
  • Present commercial/operational data that has been gathered and analyzed to management monthly, or as needed.
  • Daily reporting on power plant activity.
  • Maintain the evaluation tools used by the Commercial Asset Management team.
  • Provide clear market analysis that assists the decision making for hedge strategies.
  • Help onboard new projects
  • Update/Manage financial & dispatch models of operating projects
  • Continually validate and test modelling approaches via back-testing and/or other methods
  • Run scenarios using existing project model and/or self-created models to ensure decision-making is being informed by thorough analysis.
  • Effectively communicate market/project analysis at project team meetings to represent Commercial Department
  • Build models, tools, processes and infrastructure that supports the organization's accuracy, efficiency and scalability.
  • Assist with the many other departments to keep structured financial models updated.
  • Continually seek opportunities to improve processes and develop relationships with other departments.
  • Help prepare presentations for Sr. Management to support any strategic initiatives within Assets
  • Perform functions within applicable state, federal and local laws and ISO procedures and jurisdictions.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics or related field. (Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Science or other quantitative field with business or finance experience is also suitable) - MBA preferred
  • 5+ years of energy or infrastructure industry experience in a project finance or fund administration role.
  • Ability to model project finance transactions in power generation sector.
  • Ability to operate Financial Engineering Associates (FEA) software.
  • Database expertise (proficiency in Excel).
  • Strong knowledge of power markets and fundamental drivers
  • Strong understanding of LMP based Wholesale Power Markets
  • Excellent problem solver and analytic/strategic thinker
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
