Job Description:

Reporting relationships: Directly to Head of School

Indirectly to the Board of Trustees

Staff support to the Board Development Committee

Member of the school's leadership team

Communication responsibilities: Act to facilitate good communication between all school staff members, parents, students, external school business contacts, community members, constituents, and Board of Directors and donors regarding the marketing and development efforts of the school.

Provide frequent interface and required documentation and communication to the Finance Director, Head of School, and Board of Trustees regarding all financial aspects of marketing and development.

Financial responsibilities:

?Develop and maintain an annual budget responsible for supporting the marketing and development efforts

?Develop and implement the strategy for a multi-million dollar capital campaign

?Develop and implement the strategy for an Annual Fund

?Receive, record, and document all donations

General Responsibilities:

The Director of Marketing and Development will adhere to the policies of Heritage School and the guidelines as set forth and as directed both verbally and in writing by the Head of School [HOS].

Primary Responsibilities:

The development director is responsible for overall leadership and management of the school's development, marketing and communication efforts. Specific responsibilities include developing a strong committee which can manage the following critical development needs:

1.Creating a development plan in collaboration with the development committee, board and HOS.

2.Implementing short- and long-term fundraising strategies for operating support, facilities capital campaign, endowment campaign and special projects.

3.Through new members and sub-committee members, strengthening the development committee and serving as staff liaison to its members. Working with committee chair on the board's giving expectations and guidelines.

4.Assisting board members and other volunteers with their fundraising efforts for the organization. Providing administrative support and training for their individual outreach efforts.

5.Serving as a representative of the school to current and prospective donors. Effectively communicating Heritage School's mission, record of success, and its future needs. Expressing gratitude for their continuing support on a regular basis.

6.Working with the board, staff, faculty and volunteers to identify prospective individual and institutional donors.

7.Working with the board, staff, and faculty to identify needs and/or "wish lists" that prospective and current donors may want to provide.

8.Managing donor (foundation, corporate, individual and government) and prospect relationships.

9.Applying to foundations which are mission appropriate for their support on behalf of Heritage School.

10.Working with the board and development committee to engage and solicit existing and prospective donors by mail, phone, through events and in face-to-face meetings. Developing and managing a process for continual follow-up with said donors.

11.Recommending and implementing initiatives to increase donor retention and acquisition.

12.Planning and managing special events such as site visits, receptions, donor recognition and fundraising events.

13.Preparing fundraising materials, including solicitation and acknowledgment letters, funding proposals and stewardship reports.

14.Developing and managing an annual campaign.

15.Analyzing effectiveness of development efforts and making improvements accordingly.

16.Managing donor database and other electronic information management and reporting systems.

17.Developing and implementing public relations and press materials and efforts in conjunction with the head of school.

18.Overseeing development and implementation of all school publications, including bi-annual newsletter, website and brochures.

19.Participating in the yearly budgeting process.

20.Being an active and visible member of the school community through participation in school-wide events such as parent association meetings, faculty meetings, student performances, awards ceremonies, etc.

21.Providing updates for the Heritage website with news and event updates.

Other Functions:

1.Provide assistance to the Board of Trustees.

2.Assist with the planning and execution of social events for the school

3.Participate in community organizations which provide high levels of visibility for Heritage School

4.Other duties as assigned

Education, Experience and Skills required:

?A bachelor's degree; PR, marketing and fundraising experience, preferably in education; outstanding writing ability; oral communication skills; computer proficiency; strong interpersonal skills; ability to work as a team member Knowledge of the following equipment:

oWindows based Computers

oDonor's database basics

?Knowledge of the following computer programs a plus:

oMicrosoft Word

oExcel

oPower Point

oQuickBooks

oGraphics programs

oEtc.

?Working knowledge of budget preparation and budget maintenance

?Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing

?Basic understanding of organizational budgets and financial reports
