Job Description:

Instructor with 10+ years of experience needed to teach writing courses for staff writing complex reports. Applicants must have the following:
  • Superior writing skills and ability to diagnose writing problems in complex documents-skills that will be assessed during the selection process.
  • Ability to prioritize skills and offer developmental feedback on staff documents.
  • Excellent facilitation skills-for in-person and virtual groups.
  • Experience working with professionals who have advanced degrees and diverse language backgrounds.
  • Ability to follow a prescribed lesson plan to achieve learning objectives.

Courses are interactive and application-oriented, and instructors need experience teaching writing in the workplace, ideally to international staff. Instructors should be skilled in instructional design and have an interest in integrating AI tools into writing courses.

As part of the World Bank Group's Staff Development Program, the instructor will be expected to deliver training garnering high evaluation scores (at least 6.0 on a 7-point scale); to submit timely reports, using the formats prescribed by the program; and to collaborate actively with program team staff.

Schedules vary by month, but the consultant should be available 5-8 days per month to deliver in-person courses during DC business hours or virtual courses in the early morning or late evening hours. Tasks for this consultant include the following:

Course Delivery
• Deliver writing courses to World Bank Group staff, in person and virtually, for groups of various sizes;
• Follow program lesson plans and adapt as necessary to deliver the courses, following an instructional approach that is experiential and application-oriented;
• Lead pre-course and post-course interaction with course participants;
• Produce and maintain appropriate ancillary teaching materials (PowerPoint presentations, instructor resources, etc.) as necessary, following master guidelines;
• Enforce program guidelines for attendance and participation; submit required attendance reports; and
• Write and submit reports on participants and courses, as required, following program formats.

Client Service
• Assess learning needs and develop proposals to help clients meet strategic goals;
• Develop and deliver customized learning programs to clients, assessing their effectiveness; and
• Build client relationships to develop ongoing partnerships for learning design and program development.

Course Design and Redesign
• Contribute to redesign of courses to meet business or technology needs.
• Keep track of corrections and changing requirements in standard courses.
• As required, participate in knowledge-sharing events regarding course redesign.
• As requested, participate in design of new courses, including instructor-led and e-learning courses.

Job Duration: 5-8 days per month
