Job Description:

Purpose:

The Plant Manager plays a critical role in overseeing all aspects of plant operations, ensuring efficient production, quality control, safety compliance, and strategic growth. This role requires strong leadership, management, and technical skills to effectively manage a complex manufacturing facility and drive its success. The Plant Manager works to improve efficiency by maintaining proper equipment and implementing new production technologies and strategies.

General Duties

Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and execute the plant's strategic goals and objectives in alignment with the company's overall mission and vision.
  • Along with the Plant Supervisors, implement policies and procedures to optimize production efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance profitability.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement.

Operational Management:
  • Oversee daily manufacturing operations within the facility.
  • Lead weekly management meetings.
  • Coach and mentor Production Supervisors and plant employees on how to ensure the production schedule is met, that products meet quality standards and specifications, and shipped on time.
  • Manage resources, including manpower, materials, and equipment, to optimize production output.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers on status, requirements and schedules for active and forecasted projects.
  • Ensure raw material availability for scheduled production.

Quality Control and Assurance:
  • Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure products meet industry and customer standards.
  • Develop and enforce quality assurance protocols and procedures.
  • Collaborate with quality teams to address and resolve product quality issues.

Safety and Regulatory Compliance:
  • Promote and enforce a culture of safety within the plant, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and best practices. - Walk the talk!
  • Work with Director of EH&S to conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Stay current and up to date with industry regulations and ensure plant compliance.
  • Enforce best practices in good housekeeping

Team Management:
  • Coach and mentor Production Supervisors and team leads on how to train and develop a skilled workforce, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous education and experience improvement.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance feedback to department managers and employees.
  • Promote teamwork and effective communication among employees.
  • Schedule weekly operations meetings with the Production team.

Cost Management:
  • Develop and manage the plant's budget, controlling costs while maximizing efficiency.
  • Follow and implement a Lean Principal methodology to promote a rapid improvement process.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to improve operational profitability.

Supply Chain and Inventory Management:
  • Oversee procurement of materials and manage inventory levels to ensure uninterrupted production.
  • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and negotiate favorable terms.

Customer Relations:
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, addressing their needs and concerns.
  • Build quality and trusting internal relationships with all departments within the organization.
  • Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to understand market trends and customer demands.

Environmental Sustainability:
  • Promote environmentally responsible practices and initiatives within the plant.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and support sustainability goals.

Reporting and Documentation:
  • Accurately prepare regular reports on plant performance, including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), financial results, and production metrics.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all plant activities.

Training, Coaching & Development:
  • Ensure Production Supervisors have the knowledge, skills and abilities to responsibly meet production targets, attain appropriate competency in H&S, employee relations, Lean Manufacturing, etc.
  • Assist in creating training plans in co-ordination with Human Resources.
  • Assist Production Supervisors in planning production loading, how to schedule overtime as required.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude would be an asset.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or equivalent business experience
  • Credibility gained from 10 years of manufacturing plant management is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite is required
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple priorities using effective problem-solving/resolution skills and a team focus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to effectively and persuasively present information to Management, customers, and employees.

  • Practical experience in implementing lean manufacturing practices is considered an asset.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills. Six Sigma preferred.
