Job Description:

As a Grain Merchandiser, you will be responsible for performing or directing commodity trading, risk management, customer relations, and logistics activities. Your primary focus will be on one particular site depending on the assigned location.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Merchandising physical commodities, including interacting with suppliers and customers, and assisting in the development and implementation of commodity strategies.
  • Utilizing local and global market analysis to contribute to our overall commodity strategy.
  • Building strong relationships with customers and suppliers through extensive communication and interaction.
  • Supporting risk management objectives by executing derivative trades necessary to manage price risk and maintain accurate hedges.
  • Understanding truck and rail logistics to optimize product positioning.
  • Performing essential commodity accounting tasks, including contract entry, logistics, settlements, and accruals.
  • Assisting with tracking, billing, and instructing all rail car traffic in and out of the plant.
  • Collaborating with the VP and the Commodity Department to achieve department goals and identify future opportunities.

Education and or experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, ag economics, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and direct work experience.
  • 3 years of progressive experience in grain merchandising, grain purchasing, or commodity risk management.
  • Prior leadership experience preferred.
  • Prior experience trading and hedging commodities, preferably in a grain processing environment.
  • Knowledge of the ethanol industry and local grain trade.
  • Proven skills in executing futures, options, and derivative trades.
  • Ability to quickly build strong relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant accounting and merchandising software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and presentation abilities.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to influence and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Willingness to travel and operate motorized vehicles safely.
