Job Description:

Scotwood Industries LLC is a privately owned manufacturer of specialty retail and industrial salt products founded in 1980. The company operates a variety of packaging and production facilities utilizing conventional and advanced equipment. The company also mines salt products from natural saltwater solar lakes and purchases third-party minerals to produce finished retail products.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Plant Manager will be solely based in Loving, NM. This role is critical, as the Scotwood mining and packaging plant operations are large and complex. To lead operations requires surface solution mining processes, automated and manual processing, and packaging systems. To lead mine/plant engineering, maintenance, and production requires organized and capable interfacing with many stakeholders and driving deadlines while ensuring strong EHS, engineering, maintenance, planning, cost control, and execution practices embedded throughout the operating processes. All plant personnel will report to the Plant Manager.

The successful candidate will:

  • Report to the Director of Supply Chain at corporate headquarters in Overland Park, KS
  • Be responsible for rapid and detailed learning of the plants' processes, operating procedures, maintenance, and engineering.
  • Identifying key areas of improvement opportunity across process engineering and projects
  • Establishment of a predictive, preventative, and ongoing maintenance program designed to improve the current process and protect company assets, uptime, and reliability.

Key responsibilities of the Plant Manager role include the following:

1. Oversight/supervise all on-site personnel, including contractors

2. Best in practice EHS program development, implementation, and enforcement

3. Implementation and oversight of mining assets with a focus on the output of the grade and quality required to achieve product specifications

4. Establishment and oversight of a robust maintenance program

5. Oversight of daily process engineering and control of the plant

6. High plant uptime achieved via a combination of:
  • Robust process control framework
  • Embedding plant process control excellence and continuous improvement mindset
  • Implementation of strategic projects to improve plant performance and reliability
  • Maintenance related activities
  • Employee/contractor leadership and coaching

7. Ensure rigorous review and monitoring of crucial plant operating parameters to identify best operating procedures, early detection metrics, and troubleshooting capabilities

8. On-target capital projects delivery (timeline, budget, results)

9. Drive projects, contracting/procurement, and vendor management processes

Key outcomes:

The plant has achieved and maintained best-in-class achievable uptime.

1. Plant has achieved the highest yield and quality of raw and finished products

2. Capital projects process has delivered substantial projects that have led to a step change in plant operability

3. Equipment is maintained to maximize throughput and reliability, and longevity

4. An EHS culture is established to maintain an injury-free compliant workplace

5. Plant personnel are coached and motivated to maintain a productive, safe, and efficient facility

6. Facility supports a strong P&L and is financially independent

Specialized Knowledge/Skills required:

1. Demonstrated ability to learn material handling and packaging processes rapidly.

2. Strong process engineering/process control capabilities

3. Effective influence across functions within a mining and operating environment

4. Ability to connect engineering/operating decisions to financial outcomes

5. Project engineering and construction management

6. Maintenance system development and implementation

7. Strong management and leadership skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Engineering (or relevant and significant experience + a different degree) - REQUIRED
  • 5+ years of progressive maintenance/operations/engineering/solar mining experience
  • Direct leadership/supervisory experience
  • Fluent in English and Spanish is highly preferred
  • Salt/mineral production, processing, and packaging equipment are a plus

O/N TRAVEL: Less than 5%. Infrequent travel between corporate office, other operating facilities, etc.

SALARY: Market, based on qualifications
