POSITION PURPOSE: Coordination of the planning, administration, implementation, and enforcement for the Hamlet, NC manufacturing plant and distribution center environmental, health, and safety policies to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and to meet or exceed established goals.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Minimum of 7 to 10 years EH&S experience; manufacturing preferred
Experience with implementation and administration of a Behavior Based Safety Programs
Experience in managing workers compensation claims, claims analysis, and cost reduction
First-Aid, and CPR certification required, EMT a plus
Must have experience in developing and administering Safety & Health programs and Industrial Hygiene sampling techniques
Excellent personal computer skills in a network environment; Microsoft products experience preferred - Outlook-Word-Excel
Track record of successful project management
Must have experience in working in a team environment leading teams to meet/exceed goals

EDUCATION:
Undergraduate degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Safety Engineering, or related discipline; graduate degree preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Align the plant EH&S vision with the corporate EH&S vision
Develop and implement Plant Safety practices to create a safe working environment
Develop and implement Plant Environmental practices to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
Facilitates incident investigations, root cause analysis, and closure of corrective actions
Manage Worker's Compensation claims by investigating the circumstances of the claimed injury objectively, while minimizing costs and fraud. Act to prevent reoccurrence
Accompany employees on initial visits to panel physicians. On occasion, attend follow-up visits as well
Promote safety awareness; assist in safety and technical training
Lead the plant's Safety Committee with focus on raising safety awareness and creating an environment free of incidents
Monitor and enforce environmental, health, and safety regulations
Work with corporate EH&S on various projects and initiatives
Work with Corporate Safety to develop, implement, and sustain a behavioral safety-based program and serve as a safety liaison with Corporate EH&S to ensure consistency company wide
Lead efforts to identify, recommend, develop, and implement best practice for AWC safety programs and help ensure standardization company wide
Provides support and assistance to other locations when EH&S Coordinator/Manager positions are vacant
Assists with the technical training of new EH&S Coordinators/Managers
Conduct ongoing safety inspections of facilities, operations, and equipment to ensure compliance and a safe working environment for all AWC employees
Analyze work functions to develop safety, environmental, and ergonomic policies to ensure compliance
Develop plant Ergonomics program and assessments to address ergonomic issues.
Work with engineering and perform new equipment safety assessments
Act as a professional liaison in case of government agency inspections concerning safety, environmental, or ergonomic issues
Maintain updated OSHA and EPA required written programs and recommend/conduct training as necessary
Conducts Industrial Hygiene monitoring of hazards including noise and chemical exposure and works to minimize exposure
Administers and maintains MSDS Programs
Develop local metrics to support and drive safety performance
Actively participate on assigned teams and/or project
Ensures Policies are followed and provides guidance on safety related discipline.
Support and represent company as a union-free environment
Conduct and maintain JSA's to help ensure job safety
Participate in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives
Perform other tasks as directed by the Director of Manufacturing
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position may be asked to supervise and EH&S Specialist or an EH&S Engineer. This position will typically give direction to others in ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations.
SCOPE & EXPECATIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit, walk, talk, or hear.
The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.

Travel Requirements: Minimal travel of up to 10% may be required to other manufacturing locations. Recruitment process may consist of any combination of phone, video and in person interviews.
