Job Description:

Jones Contractors has an immediate opening for a Heavy Civil Superintendent. The Civil Superintendent will be the site leader for building caliche roads and pads for drilling, tank batteries, and compressor stations, as well as frac ponds, electrical substation pads, closing pits and upgrading roads and pads.

Job Description:

The Heavy Civil/Earth-Moving Superintendent is responsible for daily project operations, including safety, quality, production, procurement of material, manpower, equipment, and scheduling. This position will require some travel as needed. Shift rotation is 6 weeks on/10 days off. Duties of the position will include but will not be limited to the following.

Project Coordination and Set up?
  • Work with the management team to coordinate safety training, manpower, material procurement, equipment, one call placement and jobsite preparedness.
  • Coordinate drawing review with Foreman, Project Manager and Division Manager prior to kickoff.
  • Work with Project Manager to ensure the best vendor's and subcontractors are selected for the project.
  • Identify possible problem areas within the drawing package/SOW and communicate them to the Project Manager.

Maintain Safety Compliance?
  • Establish and demand a top-level safety culture.
  • Conduct daily tailgate safety meetings, lead by example, complete JSA daily, verify and complete customer permits as required.
  • Ensure crew adheres to both JSA and Permit.
  • Ensure crew wears all required PPE daily, including Hi-Viz vest, safety toed boots, hard hat, eye protection, impact and or cut resistant gloves, etc. or as required by client.
  • Work with Safety Manager and field safety personnel to communicate issues, incident reporting, etc.
  • Keep a safe, clutter free work environment with good housekeeping. Prevent safety hazards daily.

Daily updates, scheduling, timekeeping, etc.
  • Manage and coordinate projects to ensure they are completed in an orderly, safe, and deliberate manner, consistent with JCI standards.
  • Work with scheduler to complete daily/weekly schedule and progress updates as requested by customers.
  • Communicate delays, extra work, and all other project impacts to Project Manager.
  • Ensure crew members sign in and out daily, at the time of their arrival and departure from the project.
  • Fill out timesheets/daily reports correctly each day, email to timekeeper/ project tech and office personnel. Work with office personnel to rectify or correct any discrepancies.

Work with Project Manager?
  • Communicate project progress to Project Manager daily.
  • Communicate added or extra work to base scope for change order purposes.
  • Communicate delays to the schedule and apply forward thinking to help eliminate delays.

Completely understand scope?
  • Review the drawing package and SOW prior to executing the project.
  • Identify possible problem areas within the drawing package & SOW.
  • Know the project clarifications and what is included in the project scope, drawings, and documents. Communicate any questions to the PM for clarification.
  • Ensure all projects are in compliance with specified project documents.
  • Have all project related documents on hand throughout the project.

Communicate with Customers?
  • Communicate in a positive, professional manner with onsite inspectors, engineers, and customer representatives.
  • Develop relationships with the client, project manager, project engineer and inspection team conducive with selling the next project.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to manage and coordinate all project activities to deliver successful, safe, on-time, and on-budget projects to owners, with the outstanding level of quality JCI is known for.
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Competency in heavy civil, dirt work, pad construction, road construction in varying looms of native soil.
  • Experience and understanding of GPS equipment, survey, elevation profile, horizontal and vertical offsets, reading civil drawings, generating cut to fill volumes, generating topographic surveys.
  • Ability to manage crews of up to 10 workers on multiple sites.
  • Willingness to travel. Most of our projects are in Southeast NM and West Texas.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Supervisory skills are a must, a minimum of 10 years of experience is required.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position, under DOT guidelines. As such, employees must be able to pass DOT drug screening at any time. Some medications, even if prescribed, may not be acceptable under these guidelines as they may hinder the individual's ability to safely perform job duties.
