Type: full-time

Job Description:

Modern Woodmen of America as a company

Since 1883, we've been focused on securing futures with financial guidance and products to help members protect their families and their futures.

By providing our products and services we are able to fund member benefits and social, educational, and volunteer programs that identify and meet local needs. As a fraternal organization, we aren't scared to get messy. We paint park benches, serve meals to those in need and play in dodgeball tournaments; all to raise funds and support our community. Our team here in the Greater Dallas/East Texas Metroplex area supports growth professionally and personally.

North Central Texas Region Values and Mission Statement

In our local region covering Cooke, Denton, Collin, Dallas, Ellis counties and further east, we believe our ideal employee embodies and believes in the following ideals:

Devoted Team-Player: The success of the team is the most important; Senior representatives assist new ones, and we encourage team-advising with clients.

Relationship Minded: We manage relationships, not assets. If your clients and members become close confidants and feel the care you have for them and their family or business, they become clients for life.

Valued Citizen: Our fraternalism and community-service is unmatched in the industry. Above all of this, we develop our representatives to become community pillars. Demographically and geographically, our representatives are seen as people who can be counted on and called on in times of need or leadership.

All of this culminates in our mission statement of "Impacting through Relationships."

What you can expect from the Fall Externship:

Designed to allow continued engagement with students until we are able to make selections for our paid Summer Internship or other opportunities closer to their graduation, our Fall Externship is a 9-hour course taught by our Regional Director, Timothy Smith, through monthly sessions during the semester (September, October, November). During the externship we will cover different careers in financial services (financial planning, banking, investment underwriting, investment transaction principals, actuarial sciences, and insurance underwriting), review case studies, and cover essential soft skills needed in any industry.

The nine hours will be split between three sessions, each lasting about 3 hours a night, and held once a month during the semester. (Dates will be finalized closer to the start of the semester). The first two sessions will be hosted over zoom, but the third session will take place in person at our Dallas Office (3010 LBJ Fwy, Dallas, TX, 76201). The third session is structured as a networking mixer for the last half of the session to allow students to practice the networking skills previously discussed in the session and to meet financial services professionals (our representatives).

This is a free course and will not count towards any school credits.

This externship is great for those who ...
  • a genuine interest in financial services.
  • an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • comfortable approaching people.
  • desire and determination.
  • coachable and willing to learn.
  • to help others.
  • a positive attitude, good character, and integrity.

Requirements To Apply:
  • have reliable transportation as you will be expected to commute to our Dallas office for the final session.
  • possess a strong desire to pursue a career in financial services after graduation.
  • graduation must be before 2026.
