SUMMARY
An Originator is responsible for originating residential mortgages products through internal and external referral sources. The main focus will be on developing relationships with customers, realtors, builders, professionals and offer the highest quality of customer service. This position offers a base salary plus commission based on loans generated.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Manages and counsels customers through the entire loan process from data collection and analysis through loan conclusion; and maintains positive client relationship.
Responsible for generating new loan applications in the designated lending areas and for achieving loan origination goals.
Interviews and conducts meetings with loan customers and completes the loan origination process.
Establishes relationships with realtors, builders and other business relationships that will result in new loan growth.
Responsible to obtain all required loan documents.
Ability to discuss Somerset Trust Company mortgage loan products and recommends solutions to prospective customers.
Analyses applicant financial status, credit, and property evaluation to determine feasibility of granting loan.
Corresponds with or interviews applicant or creditors to resolve questions regarding application information.
Meets with prospective customers and referral sources concerning all mortgage loan processing and documentation.
Develops new external referrals sources to attract new mortgage business.
Externally makes necessary contacts with new and existing borrowers to originate loans at customer's place of business or other appropriate locations.
Refers bank products to applicants to establish full relationships.
Maintains current knowledge of and adheres to the BSA policy.

Education and/or Experience: Associates Degree or Bachelor Degree preferred. Experience may be substituted in lieu of degree. Two or more years of retail mortgage production experience. Registration required with Mortgage Licensing System Registry (NMLSR) and must obtain a unique identifier that will be provided to consumers.

Technical Skills: Ability to operate a personal computer and job-related software. (Web-based systems, Word, Excel, Encompass, Core Operating System (DNA)) Must be willing to learn new systems and not have any issues with emerging technology.

Knowledge, Skills , and Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of Fannie Mae guidelines, VA, FHA (if applicable) and USDA programs, and the secondary market. Innovative problem solver and strategic thinker and planner. Goal-oriented with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced work environment. Highly organized. Emotionally intelligent, and capable of guiding and influencing disparate personality types.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals and release notes. Ability to write business correspondence, and policies using proper grammar and accurate spelling.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as balances, payments, interest, etc.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Organizational, priority setting, and decision-making skills are also required.
