Job Description:

Under the direction of the Operations Director of Critical Care/ Cardio Pulmonary/ Rehab Services and in coordination with the Medical Director of Pulmonary Services directs the daily clinical operation of the Respiratory and Pulmonary Rehab Departments. Schedules and assigns respiratory personnel. Ensures all services offered are performed within established policies and procedures.


• Plans, directs and controls the work of the Respiratory: and Pulmonary Rehab staff.


• Ensures all work, including patient care evaluations, are performed within established policies and procedures.


• Participates in provision of care as needed.


• Develops policies and procedures affecting the department and ensures that policies and procedures are adhered to at all times recommends changes in policies and procedures as necessary.


• Orders, maintains and monitors usage of all supplies.


• Assesses new equipment.


• Assists in the development and presentation of in -service education programs to the respiratory staff, nursing staff and other departments as required.


• Assists in the development and presentation of in -service education programs to the respiratory staff, nursing staff and other departments as required.


• Attends hospital Department Manager meeting, - as well as other related Committees.


• Works with BioMed Engineering to ensure that all equipment is in proper Operational condition and makes minor repairs/adjustments as necessary.


• Collects information specific to Quality Improvement Dept. Works with OPS Director in formalizing Quality Improvement participation and takes appropriate corrective action.


• Assists in interviewing and evaluating patients requiring Respiratory Home Care.


• Contacts home care agencies to arrange for proper equipment.


• Ensures correct billing procedures are performed by staff members. Submits weekly payroll and performs other related duties.


• Continually reviews professional journals, articles, and reports and attends seminars and workshops in order to maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the respiratory field.


• Provides staff with workshop availability.


• Oversees compliance with JCAHO, DPH & other regulatory agencies.


• Performs other related duties as required.


• Prepares work schedules for 24 hours, 7days a week coverage.


• Assigns work to respiratory personnel in order to ensure that all procedures are completed in a timely manner; adjust schedules as necessary.


• Conducts interviews, recommends hiring, orients, trains and evaluates the performance of respiratory personnel.


• Recommends pay increases, transfers, promotions, disciplinary action and or termination of respiratory personnel.


• In conjunction with Operations Director establishes goal development, budgeting activities and staffing requirements.


• Responsible for entire departmental budget



Qualifications

Skills:


Required: Must possess the interpersonal skills necessary to deal with critically ill patients, families and all members of the health care team. Must possess the leadership skills necessary to deal effectively and efficiently with efficiently with staff members and other supervisory personnel.



Experience:


Required: 5 years of progressive Respiratory Therapy including a minimum of two years' supervisory experience required.



Education/Degree requirements:



Required: Associates degree in Science from an AMA approved school of Respiratory Care. CRT required.



Licensure, Certifications, or Registration:


Required: Current license in the State of MA as a Reg. Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
