Public Service Assistant Specialist - Anthropology

Job Summary

The Public Service Assistant Specialist will provide technical expertise in the field collection, laboratory processing, and report preparation of archaeological, geographical, and architectural data under the direction of the Program Director for cultural resource management surveys and investigations across the Midwest.



Duties & Responsibilities


  • Field Investigations
    Conducting all levels of cultural resource field investigations (reconnaissance survey, archival, collection of geographic and soils data, NRHP evaluations, data recovery excavations, and standing structures recordation) in field settings across the Midwest either individually or as part of a research team.
    Position requires in-State and out-of-State travel and overnight stays.
  • Office Investigations and Program Support
    Processing field data including archaeological, architectural, Geographic Information, and Global Positioning systems; employing research skills to conduct archival and historical research online and in research facilities to support program contracts; conducting laboratory analysis of field data to provide analysis tables; preparing report sections to meet Federal and State standards for Cultural Resource compliance work; and providing assistance for other Program needs.


Travel Requirements

60% Field investigations are conducted off campus requiring daily or overnight travel.



Required Qualifications



Bachelor's degree in Anthropology or a related field. Completion of an Archaeological Field School, past GPS field collection and post- processing. 6 months of field and laboratory experience.


Candidates must demonstrate:
- Completion of an Archaeological Field School, past GPS field collection and post-processing.
- Knowledge and application of the importing and exporting of shape files, topographic mapping
- 6 months of field and laboratory experience.



Preferred Qualifications



Advanced Degree in Anthropology or a related field
Prior experience with Midwest sites, materials, and practices
Understanding of Section 106 Process
Demonstrated report authorship that describes procedures and results written to comply with existing legislation

Appointment Information


This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The starting salary for this position is $ 39,000. Actual starting salary will be determined by the candidate's credentials and alignment with the position requirements. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. Sponsorship for Work authorization is not available for this position.
