OCONUS Support Engineer

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

Comtech is looking for qualified candidates with exceptional knowledge of RF SATCOM technologies. Candidate must be capable of providing maintenance, operation, and support for the day-to-day end users of tactical and fixed satellite systems as directed. Previous work experience should include working with military or commercial RF SATCOM systems. The candidate will be required to be the Subject Matter Expert on all equipment being trained and/or supported. The candidate must travel to deployed unit locations for up to 100% of their time to ensure project success. The candidate will be expected to work with a spirit of cooperation and must exhibit a tenacious work ethic while possessing the drive and critical thinking to excel in potentially tumultuous conditions.

Must have an active, current Secret Clearance.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

This position will perform the following duties:

  • Install, operate, and maintain Tactical VSAT (SNAP, ISA, and Micro VSAT)
  • Configure TDMA network for Dynamic Multipoint Virtual Private Network (DMVPN).
  • Install, operate, and maintain line-of-sight systems.
  • Configure and integrate COMSEC equipment (e.g., KG -175D, KG-175 Classic, KG-250X and KG-175E) into all tactical SATCOM systems.
  • Manage and maintain telecommunication installation supplies.
  • Maintain daily on-hand inventories.
  • Provide training to military, civilian, and contractor personnel on tactical SATCOM equipment when required.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot using any Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) required beyond the supported equipment's Built-In-Test (BIT) capability.
  • Operate Satellite Modems, Redundancy Switch, associated cables, and interconnects; Up Converters, Redundancy Switch; Down Converters, High Power Amplifiers (HPAs), Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs), Low Noise Block (LNB); Waveguide (rigid, flex, and elliptical) joints and connections; Intermediate Frequency (IF) cable and connections; Antenna, Antenna motors, Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPA), Antenna Control Unit (ACU), and associated cabling and interconnects; Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Units; Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS); Generator (if applicable).
  • Operate satellite radios and maintain those systems.
  • Operate and maintain Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) modems (iDirect, Linkway, Datum, Comtech, etc.).
  • Operate/maintain TDMA modem hubs, depending on terminal requirements.
  • Provide knowledge of tactical and commercial satellite communication equipment.
  • Provide technical documentation skills related to SAR, GAR, TSR, and ASI requests.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

All candidates will have the following minimum skills:

  • Ability to troubleshoot a VSAT Satellite terminal down to the lowest replaceable unit to include knowledge of RF signal flow.
  • Experience in procedures for accessing commercial and military satellites.
  • Ability to coordinate and execute operational requirements with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to meet eligibility requirements to access classified information.
  • Must possess interpersonal skills required to communicate with the customer and other team members effectively and tactfully.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with diverse audiences, internally and externally, to foster strong teamwork.
  • Work well independently or as a member of a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong analytical skills.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work in austere environments.
  • Knowledge in these areas is considered a plus: Routing, Switching, VOIP, and QoS. Understanding, configuration, and troubleshooting ability of DMVPN Architecture, Routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, RIP), Switching fundamentals (VLANS, VTP, Port Security, Spanning Tree), Cisco Encryption Concepts within a DMVPN Architecture, and an understanding of TCP Acceleration over Satellite concepts.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

All candidates will have the following education/experience:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience supporting installations, repair, troubleshooting, or maintenance of satellite communications electronic systems or equipment.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a military environment.
  • Potential candidates with prior experience operating SNAP, Tampa Microwave, DTECH, KLAS, and T2C2 systems are encouraged to apply.

Per Kuwait labor laws, candidates over the age of 60 will have the following additional education:

  • Must possess a secondary school diploma (4-year college degree) from an accredited institution.
