Working Hours:

Working hours for this position consist of 7.5 hour period (between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM) Monday through Friday exclusive of a ½ or 1 hour lunch. These hours to be agreed upon between the supervisor and employee at the onset of employment.


In this position, the employee may also be required to work one or two evenings per week (Tuesday and/or Wednesday) in a 7.5 hour shift ending at 7:30PM. The employee may be required to work additional evening or weekend hours in addition to, or in lieu of regular hours.


Summary:

The Accessibility Services Coordinator--Academic Intervention Specialist is responsible for implementing and monitoring student accommodations and for providing assertive academic interventions and monitoring of students to promote student retention and completion of educational goals. The job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, interpreting psycho-educational / neuropsychological reports and data to implement reasonable accommodations for students, providing academic advising that addresses individual student disability concerns, and monitoring student access to courses and student course progress. This position will also coordinate emergency notifications for students identified with a physical disability or with other health impairments, such as seizure disorders. Data collection, assessment of students and their academic progress, and maintenance of paper and electronic records for the completion of institutional and grant reports will also be required by the position.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Partial Perkins Funded:



  1. Work cooperatively as a member of the Student Affairs and Accessibility Services staff whose purpose is to support and insure program access for students who are otherwise qualified and who are eligible for services as per ADA-AA/504 guidelines at postsecondary. P/A/O

  2. Assist the Director of Accessibility Services in assuring that students eligible for disability support services are provided equal access to all college instruction and programs in accordance with ADAA law and sections 504/508 of the Rehabilitation Act. P/A/O

  3. Conduct intake interviews with students with disabilities referred to the Advantage and Perkins Program. P/A/O

  4. Review disability documentation and develop an individual student accommodation plan. P/A/O

  5. Plan, develop, and deliver comprehensive accommodations and services to meet the needs of students. P/A/O

  6. Provide assertive support and monitoring of students to strive for student retention and completion of educational goals. P/A/O

  7. Maintain contact notes and all other required Advantage and Perkins program paperwork

  8. Meet regularly with program students, RACC faculty, staff, administration, and community agency representatives to ensure the success and improvement of the students referred to the Stu Accessibility Services Office as well as the Advantage and Perkins Program. P/A/O

  9. Conduct placement testing and provide advising for students with disabilities. Remain current regarding academic program updates and all related advising information to facilitate effective academic advising of Perkins/Advantage students. P/A/O

  10. Serve as an advocate for students with disabilities and support instructional faculty in transitioning students to the college environment. P/A/O

  11. Plan for, assist in and attend student transition-related events on or off campus. P/A/O

  12. Coordinate Accessibility Services testing for students with disabilities who receive extended testing time as an academic accommodation. P/A/O

  13. Develop and conduct information sessions, workshops, and other events for prospective and currently enrolled students regarding the transition from high school to college. P/A/O

  14. Maintain student documentation files, student case files, and student data collection for reporting purposes for grants and institutional reports, and scholarship opportunities for students with disabilities. P/A/O



Advantage Grant and Operating Budget Funded:



  1. Assist the Director in developing and implementing programming to educate the college community regarding Accessibility Services procedures, policies, best practices, and ADA-AA/504 compliance issues. Review current literature and practices regarding ADA-AA/504 legal compliance information for postsecondary students. A/O

  2. Work with the Director and assessment leaders to gather and track accurate student information for assessment purposes. Develop and maintain spreadsheets including, but not limited to, information such as students actively receiving accommodations, GPAs, enrollment, types of disability, and completion of educational goals. A/O

  3. Evaluate emergency evacuation needs of students who may be unable to respond independently to an emergency evacuation. Communicate information to and refer students to appropriate campus resources. Also, provide notification to staff and faculty concerning students with other health impairments, such as a seizure disorder, and communicate appropriate protocol to assist the students in the event of a seizure or other medical emergency on campus.   4. Serve on Division and/or college committees required by the position. A/O

  5. Perform other duties as assigned. O

Education and/or Experience:


Required:



  • Master's degree in special education, social work, developmental education, higher education administration, or related field is required.

  • Minimum of two years of experience in higher education and experience with students with disabilities is required.

  • Knowledge of ADAA law and sections 504/508 of the Rehabilitation Act.



Preferred:



  • Academic advising experience at the college level.

  • Community College work experience

  • Experience using Excel spreadsheets

  • Bilingual: English / Spanish


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to use Internet software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.

Occasional local travel is required; employee must have access to ready transportation.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, faculty, staff, outside groups and the general public.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
