This position is within FSU's Department of Information Technology Services (ITS)

The Enterprise Storage and Virtualization Services team in the Information Technology services department supports the virtual machine, virtual computer lab, virtual desktop infrastructure, enterprise storage, and backup services at FSU. Funding for our team comes from provisioning these services across campus.

Responsibilities

Installs, configures, and maintains the enterprise ESX servers. Monitors the availability and performance of the virtual machine environment, ensuring adequate delivery of machine service. Responsible for ensuring these systems are operational when needed, including performing necessary maintenance.

Provisions new virtual machines and makes sure that newly provisioned resources are compatible within the ESX environment.

Participates in the enterprise virtual desktop, virtual application, and provisioning project as needed.

Participates in the provisioning of storage at the file and block though the enterprise SAN and NAS environment. Assists as needed with other duties of the group, including storage and backup services.

Shares in the responsibilities for providing support 24x7, including participating in on-call rotation. Performs other duties as necessary.

Performs duties in compliance with ITS policies, guidelines, and processes pertaining to support requests, work orders, project management, change management, and incident management. Appropriately utilizes associated tools in accordance with ITS standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and four years' experience or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of experience. (Note: or a combination of appropriate post high school education and experience equal to eight years.)

Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
Experience with architecting and supporting VMware vSphere.
Experience with Cisco UCS blade server systems.
Experience with Linux and Windows server operating systems.
Experience with public cloud infrastructure as a service including Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure.
Experience with scripting, Ansible, PowerShell, or other automation tools.
Knowledge of networking concepts including the TCP/IP protocol, routing, VLANs, subnetting, firewalls
Knowledge of storage area networks, LUNs, worldwide node names and port names, logical and physical disks, and network attached storage systems, and NFS.

The ideal candidate will have experience administering VMware vSphere, Horizon, Cisco UCS, Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Windows Server and Linux operating systems.

What is a typical day in this position?
Monitor the virtual machine infrastructure for problems, warnings, misconfiguration, or errors and address them. Respond to end-user support cases in a timely manner. Plan for future growth of the environment. Participate in meetings and provide input. Document systems and processes. Provide technical guidance to other IT staff across FSU.
