Salary: $65,000.00-$70,000.00 (Salary commensurate with education and experience)



General Statement of Duties:



The psychology department at Westfield State University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in Developmental, Educational and/or School Psychology, starting September 1, 2024. The successful candidate will have a passion for teaching Developmental Psychology, Educational Psychology, Introduction to Psychology, and will also be able to contribute to the department's Research Methods in Psychology sequence. The candidate will be able to include offerings in their area(s) of expertise. Preference will be given to candidates with scholarly interests in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Candidates who are also qualified to teach one or more of the following are encouraged to apply: Adult Development and Aging, Cross Cultural Psychology, and/or Psychology of Racism. Opportunity to teach in the department's graduate programs is possible.


Westfield State University is a teaching institution with a 4/4 teaching load. While teaching is emphasized, scholarship and other professional activities are also important considerations in the review process.



Duties and Responsibilities:


Duties include but not limited to:


Essential:



  • Teaching 4 classes each semester, including:

    • Child and/or Adult Development

    • Educational Psychology

    • Introduction to Psychology

    • Classes in the department's Research Methods sequence (Research Methods I, Statistics, and/or Research Methods II)

    • Additional classes in the candidate's area of expertise.


  • Academic advising

  • Continuing scholarship

  • Professional service to the university and/or broader community






Requirements:




Required qualifications



  • A doctorate in Developmental Psychology, Educational Psychology, School Psychology, or a closely related field (ABD will be considered) by the time of employment.

  • Ability to teach the courses listed in the job responsibilities.



Preferred qualifications include:



  • Experience teaching at the collegiate level

  • Scholarship in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Academic qualifications to teach one or more of the following: Adult Development and Aging, Cross Cultural Psychology, and/or Psychology of Racism

Salary:



Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies.
