Position Title:
Maintenance Technician
The position is a general maintenance position. Responsibilities include the maintenance, minor repair, and up-keep of plumbing fixtures and electrical devices and appliances in all campus facilities and the immediate grounds. Some minor carpentry work is required.
Must have a High School Diploma or GED or provide proof of current enrollment in an accredited GED Program which must be completed within one (1) year of employment. Must also have a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
The incumbent must possess excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to prioritize effectively, be able to interact in a diverse community, and able to adapt to changing situations.
Good oral and written communication skills are required, with the ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, technical procedures and procedure manuals. The ability to speak effectively when interacting with the public and the entire Spelman community is a must.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have beginner skills using the Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel). The employee must be able to utilize email systems such as Lotus Notes or Outlook.
Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Current valid Georgia Driver's License required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to: reach with hands and arms, use hands to handle maintenance supplies and equipment, talk, hear, stand, walk, stoop, climb, or crawl, and smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
