REQUIREMENT
The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team working in the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Electronic Materials Branch, depositing solid-state thin films and fabricating them into devices and test structures. Candidate will contribute particularly to the advancement of neuromorphic computing technologies.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct research and development in the field of electronic devices, with a focus on thin-film deposition methods and cleanroom fabrication techniques
Design and optimize thin film deposition processes for the fabrication of electronic devices
Utilize cleanroom facilities for device fabrication, with strict adherence to safety and cleanliness protocols
Characterize materials using techniques such as ellipsometry, XRD, XPS, and others
Analyze data, interpret results, and draw conclusions to guide further R&D efforts
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate electronic devices into larger systems or applications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Expertise in semiconductor nanofabrication techniques, including cleanroom processes and tools
Proficiency in thin film deposition methods such as physical vapor deposition (PVD), chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and atomic layer deposition (ALD)
Strong understanding of material characterization techniques, such as ellipsometry, XRD, XPS and others
Demonstrated ability to design experiments, analyze data, and troubleshoot technical issues
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of publications in reputable journals
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
EDUCATIONAL, CLEARANCE AND CERTIFICATION
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Physics, or related fields required
US Citizenship required
Entry level position (0-5 years experience)
PHYSICAL/WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Research laboratory (primarily cleanroom) and office environment.
TRAVEL
Travel may be required and will be performed will be under the guidelines of Federal Travel Regulations and/or Joint Travel Regulations.
