Responsibilities:
Drive continuous improvement efforts that will facilitate the creation of "safety as a way of life" which will lead us towards our goal of 0 IFR year after year
Exemplify and advocate the Johnsonville Way every day
Identify trends and process variation within food safety/quality and execute corrective actions with the help of plant operations and continuous improvement to optimize the safety and quality of our products
Work with plant operations to define food safety and quality performance metrics
Lead or co-lead third party audits (SQF and customer) and maintain required programs
Function as a liaison for plant operations on food safety and quality policies as they relate to both internal and external customers and third-party vendors
Be a plant representative to the USDA and other regulatory agencies, while ensuring compliance to GMP standards, USDA, and other regulatory requirements
Aid with coordinating and troubleshooting of day-to-day food safety and quality opportunities to help the teams define comprehensive and proactive solutions
Use your technical expertise to educate members on animal handling, food safety and quality applications and systems
Be a resource to the plant operations and to represent food safety and quality on cross-functional project teams
Develop future leaders as a pipeline for food safety and quality roles and/or operational leadership positions
Coach the food safety and quality team leader
Coach and drive ownership with members in the areas of safety, food safety and quality, cost of goods manufactured, customer service, member development and BPTW
Develop and sustain relationships with teams from outside the facility (such as R&D, FSQ, Engineering, Thought Leadership, and other facilities)
Back up the Food Safety and Quality Coordinator in their absence
Education:
Bachelor's degree in food science, Microbiology or a related field required
Graduate degree preferred (Experience and business knowledge will be considered)
Experience:
Three years' experience in a leadership/coaching role with significant involvement in developing Members to greater levels of responsibility is preferred
Harvest experience is preferred
Experience in the food industry is preferred, but not required
Experience in strategic planning processes
Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge and understanding of food safety, HACCP systems, USDA/FDA, Animal Handling and Welfare programs and regulatory requirements and have established regulatory relationships
Experience with fresh product shelf life and microbiology
Knowledge of GMPs
SQF Practitioner certification desired
Experience with SAP desired
Demonstrated communication and listening skills
