The newly invigorated role of CDO will serve as a key member of an outstanding operational leadership team at Martha's Vineyard Hospital. Reporting directly to the President, the CDO has the full buy-in and support of leadership at the highest levels. The CDO will be charged with establishing a first-class development function, leading with best practices, leaning into metrics, and helping to position MVH as a primary beneficiary of community engagement and support.


The CDO will promote and foster a strong culture of philanthropy and community engagement across the hospital and community. This person will cultivate a small but stellar team to develop robust programs and a multi-year strategy to continually raise the level of support for the hospital. This individual will provide long-range strategic leadership and day-to-day administration to maximize MVH's philanthropic potential. The CDO will also serve as a key member of the MGB Development Team maintaining effective and responsive relationships with all stakeholders across the MGB system.



Qualifications

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES



• Develop and execute an integrated and comprehensive fundraising and community engagement strategy, inclusive of aggressive annual and long-term development goals, to maximize philanthropic support for MVH.


• Lead the identification of strategic fundraising priorities; oversee effective identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects and donors; major philanthropic commitments, securing significant support for the hospital's overall mission and vision.


• Identify and recruit high net-worth individuals, community leaders and stakeholders to serve on volunteer boards and councils and effectively participate in securing philanthropic support.


• Engage executives, administrators and clinicians at the hospital and across the system to ensure collaboration and achievement of philanthropic goals and objectives.


• Serve as a representative of MVH to internal and external constituencies and the community-at-large.


• Identify and implement strategies to build and maintain a robust prospect portfolio that will ensure sustainable philanthropic support for the future.


• Bring and leverage best practices in the philanthropy industry to uphold the highest standards at MVH; organize, monitor, and coordinate all benchmarking and growth activities; working with MGB, leverage data analytics to instill performance metrics.


• Develop and foster a staff culture that emphasizes inclusion, collaboration and teamwork and recognizes shared success.


• Attract, grow and retain a high performing team.


• Serve as a mentor; developing staff for increased responsibility and leadership.


• Establish performance expectations and provide direction, feedback and guidance to employees.


• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintains accountability standards to donors; ensure compliance with code of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct for fundraising executives.



QUALIFICATIONS:



Preferred qualities, experiences, knowledge, and interests:


• Minimum 10 years of fundraising experience with departmental management ideally within a complex non-profit health organization/system. Backgrounds outside of health care will be considered.


• Experience working with Boards, senior management teams, community leaders and community constituents.


• Results-oriented leadership with a track record of achieving significant fundraising goals.


• Ability to build and operate a best-in-class development program with performance metrics.


• Proven track record of success of building strong relationships to effectively engage local stakeholders in a centralized fundraising process.


• Successful track record in identifying high-net-worth donors and closing six and seven-figure philanthropic commitments.


• Demonstrated ability to effectively navigate large, complex, matrixed organizations.


• A track record of recruiting, developing and retaining a high-functioning, cohesive team.


• Politically astute with a high level of emotional intelligence.


• Possesses a collaborative, engaging, and charismatic leadership approach, demonstrating the ability to inspire both internally and externally.


• Unwavering integrity and sense of purpose; positive and optimistic attitude.


• Champion for health equity and unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.


• Additional proficiencies include: solid judgment, strategic thinking, mentoring and leadership abilities and organizational skills.
