The Organization of American Historians (OAH) is the largest scholarly organization devoted to the history of the United States, and to promoting excellence in the scholarship, teaching, and presentation of that history. An international non-profit membership organization, the OAH has over 6,000 members who are university and college professors as well as individuals employed in a variety of scholarly and institutional settings, including libraries, museums, national parks, and historical societies.



Job Summary




  • Assists the Director of Programming and Conferences in the organization and implementation of the Organization of American Historians Conference on American History and its core components.
  • Acts as the first point of contact for conference speakers, attendees, and general inquiries.
  • Processes and manages registration information by telephone and online.
  • Assists in maintaining the conference database and related content.
  • Assists with coordination of various conference-related programs throughout the year.
  • Assists with conference-related administrative duties as needed, including maintenance of conference-related pages on the OAH website, and assisting with the production, proofreading, or updating of conference materials, such as mobile applications and conference print and electronic programs.
  • Attends the Annual Conference and assists the conference director in facilitating set-up and tear down, and with attendees on-site.
  • Assists with membership engagement including administrative support for service- and award- committee work, undertaking direct outreach to current and lapsed members to increase retention rates, and answering written and verbal requests from members and non-members.
  • Maintains and undertakes prospect development for the OAH Career Center.
  • Provides administrative support for member and public programming such as webinars and in-person events.
  • Assists members in accessing their accounts and member benefits and with the renewal process.
  • Undertakes membership-related projects as determined by the Director of Membership.
  • Assists with accounting functions related to the conference and member services including membership payment data entry; Salesforce data entry, reports and tracking; managing daily batch reports and payment-processor (Authorize.net) daily reports; and membership invoice creation.
  • Provides support for advertising sales and related invoicing and payments.



Qualifications



EDUCATION



Required



  • Associate's degree


Preferred



  • Bachelor's degree

WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • 1 year of administrative office experience, experience with basic accounting, and experience with Word, Excel, and Content Management System (CMS)/databases


Preferred



  • 1 year of administrative and accounting experience in a non-profit or higher education setting

SKILLS



Required



  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, including the ability to manage large quantities of detailed information ensuring accuracy of data entry

  • Ability troubleshoot problems and meet deadlines

  • Task oriented and self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Customer service oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a strong attention to detail

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Ability to quickly learn new software




Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
