Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) Division of Aeronautics seeks an experienced pilot to serve as our Aviation Operations Chief. Hiring Range: $45.673 - $68.510 per hour. Pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints if approved.
Job Duties:
The Aviation Operations Chief provides professional piloting of a state-owned aircraft for the transportation requirements of the Governor, legislature, judiciary, and other state agencies and personnel. The successful candidate will possess the ability to fly a complex, high-performance, multi-engine turbo-prop aircraft as pilot-in-command in all weather conditions while maintaining passenger safety, confidence, and comfort. Job duties will include but are not limited to:
• Manage approval process for State and contract pilot applicants to be approved by the Aeronautics Commission.
• Manage/supervise contract pilots who serve as Pilot in Command and Second in Command on State Aircraft to include updating contract terms to match operational environment.
• Manage flight operations schedule and maintain compliance with monthly statutory reporting requirements.
• Maintain pilot and aircraft activity statistics.
• Assist Aeronautics Director in coordinating presentations on Division aircraft capabilities and aviation safety-related topics to various agencies and the general public.
• Manage Flight Operations financial functions to include:
- Develop annual budget.
- Establish annual aircraft operational costs used to determine usage rates
and charges.
- Manage aircraft reserve funds.
- Manage details of aircraft insurance.
- Review and approval of aircraft invoices.
• Routinely review operational procedures to determine opportunities for cost savings, i.e., contract fuel options, aircraft subscriptions, flight training, and maintenance procedures.
• Coordinate and manage required aircraft maintenance and related aircraft activities to include maintaining currency of aircraft avionics software updates.
• Assume responsibility for the publication of the Division newsletter PIREPS.
• Assume responsibility for the publication of the Nebraska Airport Directory.
• Participate in local aviation career fairs for the purpose of promoting aviation career opportunities.
• Assist with completing annual FAA-sponsored Inspector Authorization renewal certification certificates.
• Manage department-sponsored youth programs, to include:
- Coordinate all Nebraska entries for the annual Aviation Art Contest.
- Coordinate a schedule for the annual American Legion Auxiliary Girls and Boys State program.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: High school education or equivalent plus a combination of experience in commercial aviation teaching and supervisory experience; or Bachelor's degree in education, business administration, public administration or related field plus a combination of experience in commercial aviation, teaching and supervisory experience; commercial aircraft operations license with instrument and multi-engine rating required; at least 3000 hours of combined related flying time.
