Job title:CABLE MANUFACTURING PRODUCTION MANAGERReports to:Operations ManagerHours:Day shiftSummary/Objective:The Cable Manufacturing Production Manager is a self-motivated contributor who will be responsible for the operations and processes of multiple work centers and locations in Cable Manufacturing by ensuring all equipment is functioning at maximum output per the demand requirements. The Production Manager is also responsible for adherence to specified manufacturing processes, execution of the production plan, and ensures that, on a daily basis, products and services are produced efficiently, at the correct amount, right cost and level of quality, and are responsible for continuous improvements. The Production Manager is classified as an Exempt employee, with an expectation of 40 hours per week, minimum, and overtime, as required to perform job functions. Essential Functions/ Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for managing, leading and supervising a team of Production Supervisors, machine operators, and Support Staff across all manufacturing shifts and locations to achieve corporate goals and metrics.
  • Responsible for the consistent communication to Supervisors across all shifts with the goal of maintaining a work environment which aligns with Samtec policies and standards.
  • Identify products to shift to our Costa Rica facility and manage the transfer of these products to this location (this includes machines, materials, processes, and training).
  • Establish training and cross training plans, ensuring consistency in our processes and practices, as well as flexibility in our work force.
  • Define the Vision, Mission and Objectives for the Production Department on an annual basis.
  • Define the KPIs and metrics to be used to evaluate performance of production and determine realistic targets.
  • Define the responsibilities of the key functions within the respective area.
  • Responsible for all orders and overall responsible for manufacturing deadlines and to inform other departments and Operations Manager when orders deviate from the schedule.
  • Responsible for the constant monitoring of the departments/equipment capacities and utilizations in order to implement proactive actions to maintain service levels.
  • Assists in establishing associate goals and completing associateevaluations. This includes, but is not limited, to regular feedback to associates on theirperformance, and disciplinary action.
  • Responsible for overseeing work schedules. This includes but is not limited toovertime and approved leaves.
  • Responsible for communicating/coordinating with the Quality Department to initiate corrective action and continuousimprovement programs to enhance productivity and reduce defects within the department.
  • Responsible for checking information from internals ERP/MRP systems for decision making.
  • Apply Manufacturing Engineering experience, including standard operations, plant layout, waste reduction or elimination, continuous improvements, engineering change control, and LEAN Manufacturing experience in low and high-volume environments.
  • In charge of adherence to following trouble shooting guides.
  • Be the overall production area owner.

  • 5 Years Management Experience in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to lift 20 lbs. from floor to waist routinely.
  • Must be able to stand for 90 minutes at a time consistently.
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously as priorities can shift very quickly.
  • Proven leadership and management abilities to grow and develop associates.
Preferred Experience:
  • Leadership experience in an offshore location preferred.
  • High data rate cable/cable assembly manufacturing is preferred.
Preferred Education:
  • College degree in Engineering or other Technical discipline is preferred.
  • On the job & past experience may be substituted, in part, for educational requirements.
Training required
  • On the job training as appropriate.
