Bachelors degree in accounting from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and two years of professional accounting experience. A master’s degree in accounting may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

The University of South Alabama’s College of Medicine – Research Office is seeking to hire an Accountant II. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
Oversees all COM, MCI and USA Health grant and contract activity and acts as liaison between the division and the office of Grants and Contracts Accounting.
Provides accounting support for the College of Medicine, Mitchell Cancer Institute and USA Health Hospitals and clinics.
Reviews all grant activity which involves working with departments, Grants and Contracts Accounting and the Office of Sponsored Projects to ensure compliance with federal, state and University guidelines.
Reviews all grant related Human Resources and Payroll paperwork for accuracy, verify salary cap on PAs, cost share and cost transfer data.
Prepares monthly and annual grant related financial statements.
Reviews spending patterns on individual grants to ensure compliance with budget and timeliness of spending.
Must remain knowledgeable of rules and regulations governing grants and contracts.
Prepares budget and journal entries as needed.
Assists with compiling data for Federal Indirect Cost calculation.
Serves as contact for departments with Banner, financial, budget and policy questions.
Assists the Health Systems Grants Analyst in production and analysis of monthly grant burn rate reports, monthly match and salary cap journal entries, preparation and maintenance of monthly match reports and schedules which includes reviewing and reconciling commitment variances.
Assists the Health System Grants Analyst in reconciliation of restricted fund monthly financial reports and additional reporting as needed.
Assists with audits of monthly departmental restricted fund effort reports to ensure all personnel are on restricted funds as stated in the budget or within compliance per sponsor, University and state guidelines.
Attends and participates in in-house training and webinars.
Attends, as budget allows, conferences in regards to grant management.
Maintains any necessary databases or files required for reporting.
Assists auditors with requests and prepares schedules as requested.
Assists the department’s Associate Director and Executive Director, as needed.
Special projects as required.
Regular and prompt attendance.
Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
Related duties as required.
