The Role
Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is offering a $2,500 up to $3,500 sign-on bonus to experienced TRADE new hires. The sign-on bonus is for external new hires. Current Newport News Shipbuilding employees are ineligible for the sign-on bonus.
The candidate should have experience of the blast process of surface preparation by operating blast equipment used to create a profile on a steel structure which will allow the coating treatment to adhere properly to the metal surfaces. The candidate will be trained in the use, care and safe operation of blast equipment furnished by the company. Candidates should be able to learn and perform safely, blast operations in tanks and voids as well as working heights such as staging, scaffolding and lifting equipment (JLG and scissors lift equipment).

Must Have
Candidates must have 2 years or more of Blast Experience.
Candidates must able to work at extreme heights or small confined spaces. Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb. Must be able to lift 40 lbs and must take and pass a respirator fit test. Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs. Must be able to pass Physical Agility Test. Must be able to work indoors/outdoors year round in all weather conditions.
