Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE:

The Buyer is responsible for managing and maintaining the purchasing department. This involves planning, organizing, implementing, and overseeing all strategic purchasing activities to source and buy materials or products needed for goods production, product development, engineering, and maintenance. The role includes managing RFQs with suppliers, developing and implementing sourcing strategies, identifying cost-saving opportunities, managing 3rd party relationships and performance, financial benchmarking, and implementing cost and inventory control measures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Principle Responsibilities & Duties

Financial: Procurement & Inventory
  • Implement & Manage Procurement and Inventory strategies and procedures to meet corporate goals including Quality, forecasting, inventory management, warehouse storage management and reporting, as well as supplier capacity planning, and cost reductions and cost avoidance.
  • Report on industry trends and constraints which could impact material quality, costs and availability. Find alternate means to support the business model in the event of such occurrence.
  • Plan, implement, and measure cost reduction goals that meet quality specs and requirements as committed to in the corporate budgeting process.
  • Demonstrates solid risk and financial modeling skills; ability to interpret and utilize key financial data.

Sourcing & Supplier Responsibilities
  • Manage efforts for strategic sourcing, supplier negotiation, and supplier management to ensure supplier alignment and support for existing and future requirements.
  • Key member of all new product introductions (NPI) and coordinating all purchasing efforts for product launch.
  • Direct all procurement and inventory related activates towards the goal of partnering with suppliers that will provide the best overall value to the business within the departmental objectives. This may include development of goals, root causing, terms and conditions and pricing negotiation, and administration of subsequent agreements/contracts.

Management, Controls, and Continuous Process Improvement
  • Creates a culture of continuous improvement. Leads purchasing and Inventory Control process improvement and improves operating effectiveness of organization.
  • Provides consultation and guidance on complex problems to all levels of management and is comfortable at engaging with senior levels.
  • Maintain procurement and inventory related data integrity in the ERP system, and abide by FDA and other regulatory body's requirements, and good manufacturing practices.
  • Open and honest communication between all management levels and departments of the company.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by immediate manager or upper management.
  • Pursues a program of self-development by selected reading, seminars, and participation in continuing education.
  • Must be able to research information to independently resolve problems and identify issues requiring further attention. Be able to make recommendations and/or implement corrective and preventative actions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • This position may be required to be on the production floor up to 20% daily (possibly higher depending on current projects).
  • Specific vision abilities are required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (The following qualifications can be acquired and demonstrated through experience, education and/or vocational training as noted or as appropriate.)
  • Minimum 3 plus years of experience
  • Bachelor's degree in related field such as business
  • APIC CPIM/CPSM certification preferred.
  • Proven negotiation skills, pricing and expediting experience
  • Sense of urgency in satisfying our customers' needs
  • Possess a strong financial acumen balanced with motivating and proactive management skills
  • Presentation Skills; ability to effectively present information to subordinates, clients, suppliers, and management
  • Entrepreneurial and energetic attitude
  • Possess an in depth tactical, technical, and analytical understanding of MRP and its effect on the manufacturing administrative processes
