Position Overview: Camp Sewataro is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to lead camp's boating program as the Head Boating Instructor. The ideal candidate will have a passion for outdoor adventure and water sports, along with a commitment to safety, fun, and skill development.
Responsibilities:
Program Leadership: Lead and oversee all aspects of the camp's boating program, including canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP).
Safety Management: Ensure the safety of campers and staff during all boating activities by implementing and enforcing safety protocols and procedures. Conduct regular safety inspections of equipment and facilities.
Skill Instruction: Teach campers of varying skill levels the fundamentals of canoeing, kayaking, and SUP, focusing on proper technique, water safety, and navigation.
Activity Planning: Develop engaging and age-appropriate lesson plans and activities that align with the camp's philosophy of "play safe, make it fun, and teach the skills."
Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance, repair, and inventory of all boating equipment, including canoes, kayaks, paddles, life jackets, and other gear.
Activity Counselors are also assigned to a group. During morning arrival, lunch, and at the end of the day, the Activity Counselor joins the group and works with the Group Leader to provide support for the campers.
Qualifications:
Previous experience leading or instructing boating activities, preferably in a camp or outdoor education setting.
Strong knowledge of canoeing, kayaking, and SUP techniques, safety procedures, and equipment.
Current certification in lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid (or willingness to obtain before camp season).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with campers, and staff.
Demonstrated leadership abilities and a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to changing situations in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Information:
This is a seasonal position, with employment running from June 24th to August 16th, with the possibility of pre-season training.
