SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of a Physician or RN, assists in providing patient care and select treatments and procedures. Updates RN with timely information regarding status of patient. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of nursing philosophy and objectives, as well as, initiatives. Represents UMMC in a positive, professional manner, with a commitment to customer service. All practice and patient care decisions will be consistent with established hospital policy and procedure, TJC and all state and federal laws.

STATUS: Full Time

LOCATION: United Memorial Medical Center

DEPARTMENT: Ambulatory Surgery/PACU

SCHEDULE: 9am-5pm Mon-Fri



ATTRIBUTES

Education/Training: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Associates Degree preferred. Phlebotomy Certifications preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Phlebotomy Certification preferred. Annual Basic Life Support Certifications required.



RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provides a variety of patient care procedures under the direction of an RN including, but not limited to; vital signs, EKGs, surgical skin preparation, phlebotomy, data collection, and patient transport.
2. Implements and assists patients with physical therapy functions including, crutch walking, lifting, transferring, turning and positioning of patients utilizing proper body mechanics.
3. Provides the RN with accurate and timely information regarding patient needs and status in a timely manner.
4. Demonstrates effective documentation and communication skills, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times
a. Supports and collaborates with the multidisciplinary approach.
b. Clear, concise and timely documentation
5. Replenishes stock from Central Supply, Pharmacy or other departments as needed.
6. Fulfills/maintains certifications/hospital requirements
a. Maintains all requirements for certifications
b. Completes annual education, skills verification and competencies
c. Upholds the UMMC standards of behavior
d. Abides by all hospital approved policies, laws and regulatory agencies
7. Encourages an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts.
a. Proactively identifying potential and actual patient safety risks, identifying underlying causes and making the necessary improvements through a systems-based approach.
b. Operates and maintains equipment utilizing proper procedures, established policies and reporting of malfunctioning equipment.
c. Communicates issues of concern and safety in a timely, appropriate manner.
d. Must be able to transport patients within the hospital and at discharge.
8. Assists in routine cleaning of pre/post environment including, but not limited to patient care equipment, stretchers, patient bays.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.



LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:



  • BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (AHA)


PAY RANGE: $17.50 - $19.15

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
