Product Development Supervisor at PPG INDUSTRIES INC in Cheswick, Pennsylvania

Job Description:

As the S&T Latex Product Development Supervisor , this role supports the latex broadwall product development through formulation and testing design that aligns with the AC USCA technology roadmaps. This role will liaison internally with the research and product development functions, Color CoE team, manufacturing team, and procurement. Moreover, this role is a strong partner with the Product Management and Marketing Teams to ensure that the technology roadmap is aligned with customer requirements.

You will report to the Manager II S&T Product Development, you will have 5 to 7 direct reports.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for leading a small team of technical personnel in a laboratory environment.

• Responsible for multiple projects.

• Build, maintain, and lead a product development technical team to develop new product lines and to provide support to existing product lines. Active role in product commercialization.

• Drives the development and understanding of fundamental principles and root cause analysis. Strong impact on technical results

• Strong focus on safety and safe operating practices within the lab.

• Drive engagement and energize the technical team and the organization.

• Work closely with the Portfolio and Marketing Team to ensure alignment of the development portfolio with the regional business strategy.

• Liaise with the research function to ensure that projects and capabilities are aligned with technology and product roadmaps for execution and commercialization of new products.

• As a supportive manager, lead authentically by building/managing talent and managing the performance of the team.

• Drive compliance with PPG Environmental, Health and Safety policies.

• Ensure adherence to best practices for product development and formulation practice creation.

• Ensure adherence to compass stage/gate process.

• Consult on issues/upgrades to formulation guidelines.

• Ensure gatekeeper and portfolio management disciplines are in place and fully utilized.

• Ensure adherence to compass stage/gate process.

• Create and promote an environment where Sigma Logic disciplines are applied regularly.

• Drive the adoption of automation, machine learning and high throughput experimentation to accelerate product development and increase productivity.

Qualifications

• A bachelors, master's degree in a technical or engineering discipline.

• Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in product development.

• Proven track record of authentic and inspirational leadership, cross-functional collaboration, customer intimacy, and new product development.
