Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Major and Corporate & Foundation Giving, the Assistant Vice President (AVP) develops and secures financial resources from corporate and public/private foundation sources. The AVP will play a leadership role in crafting and implementing strategies to increase philanthropic support across Brigham and Women's Hospital and will work to ensure the highest order of strategy, cultivation, institutional interpretation, and communication with these sources. Working closely with hospital leadership, including doctors/faculty, administrators, and volunteers, the AVP will proactively develop strategic partnerships with corporations and foundations to secure revenue across many areas. In addition, will play a proactive role in identifying new partnerships with corporate and foundation leadership, including working with foundation trustees, and staff in seeking grants and gifts to achieve and exceed financial goals.


The Assistant Vice President will lead a team of fundraisers, work in close partnership with colleagues across the Brigham Development Office, especially on the major gifts team. They will be supported by a shared Development Associate.


The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts (six-figure range or more), preferably in the field of academic medicine.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Lead, direct, and coordinate all aspects of BWH's Corporate and Foundation Relations Program by leading, facilitating, and guiding the development of all strategies for current and prospective corporate and foundation donors with capacity to make significant commitments to the hospital's clinical, teaching, and research programs.

  • Collaborate with and support hospital administrators, clinicians, and researchers in developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising plans.

  • Partner with members of the Brigham Development Office, especially across Major Gifts, to build a pipeline of corporate and foundation prospects with a focus on solicitation of six-figures and above gifts.

  • Lead a team of fundraisers to achieve Corporate and Foundation Relations Program fundraising goal.

  • Lead all aspects of prospect assignments, handle, and guide strategy development and monitor proposal submissions to improve staff productivity and ensure the reliability of the pipeline.

  • Implement proactive stewardship plans for corporate and foundation funders. Take on additional special fundraising projects when help is needed to lead or support them.

  • Oversee program compliance with the Mass General Brigham Office of General Counsel, Research Management, Innovation, and the Office for Interactions with Industry.

  • Partner with volunteer leadership to use their institutional connections to corporations and foundations.

  • Successfully achieve high-reaching goals in a highly entrepreneurial, outcome based, fast-paced environment, where the team is proactive and focused on advancing prospects towards closing gifts.






Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Appreciation for and an ability to articulate the mission, vision, and strategy of the hospital and its programs.

  • The intellectual depth and experience to garner the trust and confidence of the leadership of hospital department(s), other faculty, administrators, as well as volunteers and contacts at corporations and foundations.

  • Proven ability to leverage academic, clinical, and administrative staff in contacts with donors. This includes strong preparation and good judgment about the extent to which cultivation can effectively be volunteer and/or staff centered.

  • The ability to build bridges and strong relationships across a complex organization.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work autonomously under pressure of complex multiple and sequential tar

  • Ability to navigate complex, fluid situations, and relationships.

  • Ability to motivate and lead a team of six fundraising professionals of varying levels of experience.

  • Enthusiastic, tries new things, the courage to speak and act on convictions, intelligence, insight, initiative, resilience, and acts on their own initiative.

  • Willingness to travel when necessary.


SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:



  • More than ten years of development or significantly related experience. Experience with medical fundraising either in a hospital or an academic medical center would be strongly preferred.

  • Experience in managing teams of at least two or three members.

  • Effective track record of collaborating with colleagues in a complex organization to develop funding proposals and strategies.

  • Strategically links institution and programmatic initiatives with opportunities for fundraising.

  • Serves as an effective spokesperson for the hospital and its programs.

  • Absorbs information about a variety of medical and scientific topics and communicate it to others in lay language.

  • Exceptional writing skills and the ability to produce effective, compelling proposals.

  • Comfortable and experienced working with donor databases/CRM to track and monitor fundraising activity.

  • BA/BS Degree required.
