Schneider Electric has a meaningful opportunity for a 1-year Sustainability Research Fellow to work for a company at the leading edge of Sustainability, Energy Management & Decarbonization. This position can be based in any of our Boston or Andover MA, Dallas TX, Chicago IL or Raleigh NC Hub locations. In this opportunity, you will sit within the Research team in the Decarbonization Office for Digital Energy, with high visibility across multiple business divisions where you will be interfacing with technical experts in Energy Management and sustainability.

This person will be a key team member in accelerating Schneider Electric's global building decarbonization efforts backed by science-based research.


  • This position provides an opportunity to lead a research project to advance a critical topic related to Decarbonization or Sustainability efforts within the Decarbonization Office. This project is expected to engage in both lateral and vertical thinking to expand the capabilities, deepen the knowledge, or amplify the messaging of the Decarbonization Office in a way that impacts the Office long after the Fellowship has concluded. The Fellow is also expected to support ongoing research and publications by others within the Decarbonization Office.

  • The Decarbonization Office for Digital Energy collaborates on topics relating to sustainability across all divisions of Energy Management and the Global Sustainability Strategy team. This position will be exposed to all facets of sustainability within the Decarbonization Office functions.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Participate in research projects to validate and quantify sustainability metrics associated with Digital Energy products and offers, including Operational and Scope 3 carbon benefits.

  • Perform quantitative analysis with large datasets and prepare effective graphic communication of results.

  • Prepare and present written and oral reports for key project milestones and results to management, highlighting specific actionable conclusions to shape market strategy.

  • Perform ad hoc missions to support ongoing research efforts as requested by other members of the Research Team. These missions are likely to be wide-ranging. Some examples include on-site sensor installation, literature reviews in scientific publications on novel topics, or the creation of data processing workflows.

Skills & Abilities


  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, data science, engineering, or related field. Master's degree or PhD experience preferred.

  • Strong analytical research and written, oral, and visual communication skills.

  • Excellent MS PowerPoint, Excel and Teams skills. Ability to work in Tableau, computer programming languages, or PowerBI

  • Driven self-starter who can execute in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment.

  • A self-organized fast learner who exhibits strong curiosity about the mechanisms behind how environmental systems operate. A passion about climate change, GHG emissions, circular economy, environmental justice, air quality, or related topics is a must.

  • Ability to synthesize information on topics from multiple sources to make meaningful recommendations.

  • A collaborative mindset and ability to communicate from a position of deep expertise with both expert and non-expert audiences. International, multicultural mindset and approach.

  • Data analytics and research background. Experience in sustainability data and reporting, particularly carbon emissions calculations, is preferred.

  • Other: Knowledge of environmental compliance regulation or previous research project management are a plus.
