The department of Psychiatry has an exciting opportunity for a Post Doctoral Associate to work onsite on the UHealth campus. The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.



CORE JOB FUNCTIONS



  • Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned.

  • Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.

  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.

  • Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.

  • Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

  • The Post-Doctoral Associate will play a crucial role as a member of the research and clinical team at the CNSA. This involves active participation in ongoing research projects, clinical assessments, and service delivery initiatives aimed at understanding and addressing neurodegenerative diseases, particularly in aging populations.

  • The Post-Doctoral Associate will gain experience in analyzing research data collected from clinical assessments, neuroimaging studies, and other sources. They will also be involved in preparing manuscripts for publication, translating research findings into scholarly articles that contribute to the scientific literature and advance our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases.

  • The position provides opportunities to learn and participate in the preparation of grant applications, particularly those funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other external funding agencies. This involves developing grant proposals, outlining research objectives, justifying study designs, and navigating the grant submission process.

  • The Post-Doctoral Associate will receive training in clinical assessment techniques, including neuropsychological testing, functional evaluations, and diagnostic interviews. They may also have opportunities to provide supervision and mentorship to pre-doctoral practicum students, contributing to their professional development and fostering a collaborative learning environment.

  • The position encourages collaboration with faculty mentors and colleagues from diverse disciplines, including neuropsychology, neurology, psychiatry, and cognitive neuroscience. The Post-Doctoral Associate will participate in weekly didactic sessions covering topics such as neuroanatomy, neuropathology, neuroimaging, and differential diagnosis, enhancing their knowledge base and interdisciplinary perspective.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS



  • MD, Ph.D., or PsyD in relevant field required

  • APA Accredited Internship highly desired: The candidate should have completed an internship accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), with a significant emphasis on neuropsychological assessment.

  • Neuropsychological Assessment: Experience in administering and interpreting neuropsychological tests is crucial for understanding the cognitive and emotional profiles of individuals, particularly geriatric populations who may be at risk for neurodegenerative diseases is preferred.

  • Working with Geriatric Individuals: Experience working with geriatric populations is essential for understanding the unique needs, challenges, and clinical presentations associated with aging, including neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and related disorders is highly desired. This experience may involve direct clinical work, research, or both.




Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:



  • Understanding of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, including their etiology, progression, and clinical manifestations.

  • Clinical assessment skills, including proficiency in administering neuropsychological tests, conducting diagnostic interviews, and interpreting assessment results to inform clinical decision-making.

  • In-depth knowledge of neuropsychological assessment techniques and tools, including their administration, scoring, and interpretation, to evaluate cognitive and functional abilities in clinical populations.

  • Understanding of interdisciplinary collaboration and the ability to work effectively with colleagues from diverse fields, such as neuropsychology, neurology, psychiatry, and cognitive neuroscience. Strong writing skills to prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, including the ability to articulate research findings clearly and concisely for scientific audiences.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with research team members, faculty mentors, and clinical colleagues, fostering a collaborative and inclusive research environment.



  • Dedication to the highest ethical standards in research conduct, including protecting the rights and welfare of research participants and adhering to institutional and regulatory guidelines.

  • Openness to learning and professional growth, including actively seeking opportunities for training, mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance research skills and expertise.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to navigate the complexities of clinical research and respond effectively to challenges and changes in research priorities or study protocols.
