Job Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY:



The Abudayyeh-Gootenberg lab (abugootlab.org) at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the Mass General Brigham Gene and Cell Therapy Institute, and Harvard Medical School, is seeking a highly organized and dynamic individual to serve as a Lab Manager. This unique role provides an opportunity to be a part of a team contributing to the forefront of technology development in gene therapy, cell therapy, and aging research.


Works under the very general direction of the Principal Investigator or Department Administrator, performs full scope of management responsibilities in a research laboratory, including fiscal/budget management, supervision of staff activities, inventory management, reagent management, animal and safety management etc. Participates with the principal investigator in the design of experimental protocols. Role also includes operational and administrative roles for the lab, including but not limited to management of calendar and scheduling, travel, and other administrative tasks for the Principal investigators.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



1. Supervises operation of the laboratory, including overseeing the use of laboratory funds, supply inventory and staff activities.


2. Manages all lab personnel, including hiring, firing, performance evaluation, disciplinary action, orientation and training.


3. Responsible for financial management of research lab. Develops budgets, analyzes trends, produces reports. Additionally participates in all aspects of grant writing and proposals.


4. Handles scheduling, calendars, travel, and other administrative tasks for the principal investigators.


5. Responsible for the coordination of all regulatory and compliance activities for the lab.


6. Trains staff in specialized lab techniques.


7. Coordinate maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.


8. Coordinate lab meetings and events, including scheduling and preparing agendas.


9. Facilitate the onboarding process for new lab members, including training on lab equipment and procedures.


10. All other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:



BS Required, MS preferred.


Minimum of 5 years of progressively more responsible research work experience. Prior supervisory experience required.



SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:



• Must be able to make independent, effective decisions in appropriate situations.


• Must possess a scientific imagination commensurate with the independent execution of research projects.


• Must have aptitude for technical problem solving.


• Ability to effectively supervise others.


• Excellent organizational skills to ensure smooth functioning of lab.


• Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to logically sequence experiments to maximize research.


• Must possess aptitude for budget management.


• High level of computer literacy.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:



Responsible for supervising staff including hiring, firing, evaluating and disciplining. Will orient and train new staff members.



WORKING CONDITIONS:



Will require work in office, laboratory, and animal facility environments.
