The Division of Cultural & Communication Studies seeks a faculty member with a strong commitment to teaching excellence, scholarship, and innovation. The individual must be able to work collaboratively with a dynamic team, as well as work independently when necessary.
This individual will serve as a member of the Division of Cultural & Communication Studies faculty with responsibility for teaching within the traditional program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
Teach four courses per semester (equivalent to 480 student credit hours annually)
Participate in scholarly activities appropriate to the discipline
Participate in and assist division faculty in university and community service activities as appropriate
Engage in continuous improvement processes using information derived from student learning assessment activities and lead the periodic evaluation of the Graphic Design program
Develop new academic programs, courses, and projects when appropriate
Collaborate with division chair in scheduling Graphic Design course offerings, assigning instructors, and enrolling students to meet program and student needs
Mentor Graphic Design students to become highly qualified professionals well prepared to enter the field
Work with the division to establish and maintain a long-term vision for Graphic Design that is consistent with the departmental, divisional, college, and university missions
Assist students in finding high quality internship experiences and opportunities
Provide students with opportunities to network with city agencies (i.e. Oklahoma Ad Club) and participate in events that enhance their experience (i.e. Addy awards)
Serve as a liaison between Graphic Design and other units of the institution
Serve on university committees as designated
Abide by policies established in the Faculty Handbook and University Catalog
Plan lessons using division curriculum that address particular learning outcomes and the needs of students
Use technology to enhance instruction and assessment
Design, administer and grade assessments to measure student learning
Gather and submit a sample of course assignments as requested for documentation for SNU General Education Committee
Maintain accurate, up to date grading in Learning Management System
Maintain accurate, up to date attendance record in university required system
Set up and make proper use of a Learning Management System site for assigned course(s)
Administer a final exam on the day and time scheduled by the university
Submit final grades as required
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships
Ability to work independently
Ability to operate office equipment
Ability to provide quality customer service

Master's degree and 18 graduate credits hours in graphic design or 5 years of professional experience in graphic design
Minimum of two years of teaching experience
Portfolio of design work
Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to prioritize multiple demands in fast paced work environment
Typing and spelling competency
Experience with various computer software applications
Preferred Qualifications
Master of Graphic Design, Fine Arts or related field OR bachelor's in Graphic Design and 5 years professional experience
Experience using discovery learning or inquiry-based learning for instruction
Supervision Received
Receives supervision and work assignments from a designated chair, although other staff members in the unit may provide work direction.
