Description: Job Summary

The Harvard Ed Portal is a collaborative partnership between Harvard University, the City of Boston, the Harvard Allston Task Force, and the Allston-Brighton community. The Ed Portal is the Allston-Brighton community's front door to Harvard's educational resources (virtual and in person) in arts, wellness, and workforce and economic development.

The Harvard Ed Portal's Workforce Development Program focuses on supporting unemployed and underemployed Allston Brighton and Cambridge community members in their career explorations and searches.

The Harvard Ed Portal STEM Career and Green Jobs Pathways Program focuses on assisting individuals in Allston Brighton and Cambridge in entering STEM Careers. Cambridge is already a focal point for life science companies and Allston Brighton area is an emerging center of life science development.

Position Description

Program Development and Delivery
  • Support the development of and manage the delivery of career training internship/apprenticeship programs in bio/life sciences, building trades, IT, green/sustainable jobs
  • Develop and deliver hard and soft skills trainings for diverse cohorts of participants
  • Create and deliver information sessions on career pathways in bio/life sciences, building trades, IT, green/sustainable jobs
  • Provide direct case management to individual cohort participants (interns/apprentices) to mitigate barriers to persistence and success, and to facilitate cohort participant retention
  • Maintain consistent communication with internship/apprenticeship hosts and supervisors throughout participants' placements to provide support and proactive troubleshooting
Partnership Management
  • Communicate with local high school and adult ed partners to increase awareness of training program opportunities and requirements for participation
  • Plan and publicize a clear schedule for internship programs, including application cycles, due dates for requests for financial assistance, etc.
  • Develop referral process and share with CBO and employer partners to recruit diverse participants from Allston Brighton & Cambridge
  • Steward strong relationships with existing local anchor employers and develop relationships with new employer partners.
  • Develop and steward strong relationship with internal Harvard partners working in the sciences (FAS/SEAS/HMS/SPH) for potential apprenticeship placements
Marketing and outreach
  • In collaboration with HPAC marketing team, create an advertising and marketing campaign for new and updated career pathways programs
  • Create a list of program partners and supporters for outreach, referrals, recruitment, and info sessions
  • Represent the Workforce and Economic Development team at relevant events, meetings, and on committees related to career pathways programs, bio/life sciences, building trades, IT, green/sustainable jobs


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3 years' minimum experience in training design, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Presentation, facilitation, and written communication.
  • Career coaching.
  • Project planning and program management.


Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent presentation, facilitation, and written communication skills.
  • Bi-lingual a plus.
  • Small business development initiatives and community outreach experience.
  • Strong research and analytical skills; ability to effectively organize and display data.
  • Proven track record for developing professional relationships in a community setting.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Outlook.
  • Position requires some evening and weekend hours.
