JOB SUMMARY:

The director provides enterprise-wide leadership and coordination for undergraduate advising. The director collaborates with faculty and staff in academic colleges and departments as well as other academic and student service units to develop and enhance undergraduate academic advising standards, processes, procedures, and resources, create and deliver training and professional development opportunities for undergraduate academic advisors and support student success programs and initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

40% - Essential - Process and Operations Leadership: Develops, implements, monitors, communicates and maintains strategies, policies, standards and programs grounded in best practices to support the goals of enhancing the academic advising experience for undergraduate students and enhancing the work experience of employees performing the academic advising function. Leads the process to develop and maintain standardized academic advising policies, processes and procedures across the undergraduate enterprise. Leads short-term teams to develop and implement academic advising best practices. Collaborates with Undergraduate Studies and college advising leadership to ensure knowledge and implementation of academic advising policies, standards, and programs.

40% - Essential - Project Leadership: Leads undergraduate advising-related projects including but not limited to the advising and student success platform, advising website, advising publications, training and professional development programs, career development programs and annual program evaluation. Serves as project owner for the advising and student success platform, and collaborates with project sponsor and project coordinator to maximize functionality and ROI of CU Navigate. Manages the undergraduate academic advising training program, website and publications to ensure creation and delivery of accurate and timely information to the undergraduate academic advising community. Develops and implements ongoing professional and career development programs for new and continuing academic advisors to provide a pathway for career development and advancement opportunities for academic advisors.

10% - Essential - Personnel Leadership Provides effective leadership, supervision and direction for direct reports. Sets performance goals and creates performance plans in support of university and divisional goals. Engages in self-directed professional development and attends training and/or courses as required or requested by the supervisor to remain professionally current and competent and in compliance with university requirements.

10% - Essential - Data and Program Evaluation Leadership: Leads annual enterprise-wide evaluation of undergraduate academic advising to collect data about the undergraduate advising experience and process. Shares findings with advising community to present current strengths and areas for opportunity. Utilizes data to drive improvements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Master's Degree
Experience - 2 years of relevant student services program experience

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Experience - 3 years of experience leading or coordinating undergraduate advising programs and initiatives

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages Work of Others - Manages work of others including hiring, terminating, training and developing, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff. Plans organizational structure and job content.

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides Budget Input - Provides input into the budgeting process, and oversees fund allocation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Experience - 3 years of experience leading or coordinating undergraduate advising programs and initiatives
