Laboratory (Research) Technician

Within a new laboratory at the Coriell Institute for Medical Research we are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team and assist in experimental animal model systems aimed at understanding genetic and molecular mechanisms regulating sex differences in melanocyte function and melanoma progression. Specifically, he/she will mainly carry out experiments in melanocyte and melanoma cell lines and in mouse models of melanoma through a combination of independent and team driven projects. This individual should be able to independently handle experiments or small research projects.

Primary responsibilities include but will not be limited to:
  • Maintaining, collecting, and preparing records of data as well as results for presentations, papers, etc.
  • Performing data analysis using statistical software packages
  • Applying molecular and cell biology approaches to cell lines and animal studies, including immunostaining, microscopy, flow cytometry, epigenetic assays, Crispr/Cas strategies, among others
  • Designing gene knockout/knockdown experiments, qPCRs, among others
  • Maintaining a mouse colony, contributing experimentally to ongoing research projects
  • Maintaining laboratory bacterial culture stocks, mammalian cell culture stocks, DNA Plasmid stocks
  • Training students in research methods and procedures as needed
  • Ordering supplies, writing and submitting protocols, and maintaining records of required training for all lab members
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate must have previous experience and be proficient in mouse husbandry, PCR-based genotyping, cell culture, flow cytometry, as well as DNA, RNA, and protein isolation and detection techniques. Additionally, this candidate must excel in standard molecular biology techniques and assays and have skill sets in molecular cloning, cell culture, western blotting, and PCR.

A Bachelor's Degree and at least 2 years of experience is required. Working knowledge of general principles in genetics and molecular biology, as well as accurate and timely record keeping, impeccable organization, and demonstrated interest in working in a laboratory setting is needed to excel in this role.
